Scam Sacred Birman Cat

Solved/Closed

After a little search for kitten adoption ads, I came across this ad for giving away a kitten of the Burmese Sacred type http://www.lannonce.com/bonnesaffaires/maison/pa001/petite-annonce-animaux-1323763.html
After contacting the giver, it turned out that she had been in Benin for 4 days and had taken the kitten, but the kitten could not stand the heat...

Already I start to have questions.

The giver asks me for my contact details to send me the kitten via the transport company that first took it to Benin...

Now I really start to be suspicious...

A few searches later, I find lots of posts about animal scams coming from Benin... It is clear that this ad is a scam.

So I hope that other people who come across this ad will think of doing a Google search and will find this post.

Same Arnak, but the country is different; it's Canada. The emails are almost the same: laureaurelle@hotmail.fr. The pseudonym is transporteur MEITE ZOUMANA. He is asking today for 150 EUROS cash transfer.
There are just delivery fees; be careful to pass on the info. The fake ad was posted in France 3 days ago, and it says it's in Canada today and that this cat can't stand the cold.
      Totally bogus.

      Hello Manu,
So you still haven't understood that this guy doesn't have a kitten to give away, and that the only thing he wants is your money?

I also fell for a scam like that, for a Siamese kitten, supposedly it wasn't in the country, so a company had to transport it to France, but it was said to be free!
And 2 days later they wrote to me saying that they had paid the transporter €393, and that I would have to pay €100 upon receipt!!
I said no right away! It was too suspicious..

Here is the response following an advertisement!!!! Seems like yet another scam... It appears that the ad was on marche.fr
    Hello,
    Thank you for responding to our ad regarding our sacred Birman kittens for adoption. They are 13 weeks old from a litter of 4 kittens; we have three left, which we have named Belle and Shea for the two females and Mika for the male. They are vaccinated and tested negative for FELV, FIV, and PIF; however, they are not LOOF registered. The reason we are giving them away is that we no longer have enough time to take care of them as we have moved to London for work reasons and my wife is pregnant. They are very rare and expensive kittens, but since we know that there are people with limited means who could take better care of them due to their availability, we are giving them away for free. First, we would like you to answer the following questions;

    Are you a breeder?
    Where are you located?
Have you ever had cats before?
Are you sure that your time and income will allow you to take care of our cats?

    Since we have moved to the UK, we can arrange either an appointment at your earliest convenience or delivery by an animal transport company. The kittens will come with the following accessories;

    1 year of medical insurance
    Adoption certificates
Health certificates issued by a veterinarian
    All vaccinations up to date
    Travel cage
    Food menu
    Royal Canin kibble
    Some toys and clothes

Attached are some photos of the kittens for you to make a selection. We are awaiting your response as soon as possible or you can call us at +447031804052.

    Best regards
In response to the following message, they greeted me with "good evening" even though the email was sent at 3 PM Paris time and they replied 10 minutes later saying "good evening!!!" Knowing that there is only a one-hour difference in England, this indicates that they are likely in Africa and not in the UK as they claim.

    Good evening,
    We are very happy to know that you have experience with cats; we agree to give you our kittens since you have experience with cats. Our kittens are microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and of very good character. They are a bit clingy since they always love to be cuddled. If you agree, we can send you a little kitten of your choice; we still have little Mika, the only remaining male, and Belle and Shea, the females, within a short time to your address for the sum of €180 per kitten, which you will pay directly to the company that will bring them to your address from London, where we reside. We will need your details in the following order to do the adoption papers for the kittens of your choice in your name and register them with the transporter;

    Full name:
    Complete address:
Postal code and city of residence:
    Landline and mobile phone:
The nearest airport to your home:

Once this information is gathered, we will be ready to send you the kittens of your choice as soon as tomorrow. Awaiting a quick and favorable response, we wish you a good day.

    Best regards

    Hello,

I also just came across the same ad but with a different name: it is about Mrs. Emilie GONOU. The ad was posted on "Le Bon Coin". She claims to be in West Africa, but the ad appeared in department 89.

I still left my contact information to see. They tried to call me back from Africa but I didn't answer. I also informed Le Bon Coin so they could stop the ad.

It's a shame because the little kitten really made me fall for her.

    Hello,

I also think I might have come across a scam (what a disappointment, I thought I had found my little cat...)

    Here is the email:
    garcia551@hotmail.fr

    As we mentioned in our ad, we do not sell our babies but rather give them for adoption to reliable and loving families with animals. Our kittens are always available for serious adopters. The kittens were born on 29/09/2010 from a litter of 5, so they are currently 3 months old. We currently have two kittens left, named Arley (the male) and Missy (the female); they are already vaccinated, tattooed, and well dewormed. The reason we are giving them away is that we don't have enough time to care for them since we moved to London for work reasons and I am pregnant. We are a family breeding but currently have no other choice but to find better homes for the kittens since we can no longer take care of them due to lack of time. To avoid being selfish and making the puppies suffer due to insufficient care given our schedule, we have decided to find them homes where they can be better taken care of. These are very rare and expensive kittens, but since we know there are people with limited means who can take better care of them given their availability, we are offering them generously. Above all, we would like you to answer the following questions;

    Are you a breeder?
    Where are you located?
Are you sure that your time and income allow you to take good care of our kittens?

Here are the adoption conditions for one or both of my kittens:
1- Keep me updated about the kittens with photos too.......
2- Give them all the love they will need.........
3- Take good care of them.
4- You must not sell them.

    Since we moved to the UK, we can arrange either a meeting as soon as possible or a delivery through an animal transport company. The kittens will come with all their accessories;

Here is our address so you can come pick them up to meet them:
    Mr. and Mrs. Debrito Garcia
    12 Sussex Place,
    Hyde Park, London, W2 2TP
    Tel: 00447031865624

Otherwise, we can have them delivered to your home; by an animal delivery company at the airport. If you opt for delivery, then we will need all your contact details and phone numbers as well as the airport in your area. You must promise us to send photos of the little ones from time to time.
Looking forward to a response as soon as possible. You can contact us at 0044 70 31 865624 for more information. One last question, are you ready to pay for the transportation of the kittens since we are in England?
I have attached some photos of Missy and Arley to this email.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

It seems to me that this looks way too much like what is described above to trust!!!

Anyway, I have contacted associations in ÎLE DE FRANCE for adoption. Already, one happy moment, but we can also see their little faces!

Thank you for your comments that helped me dodge this!!

I am currently in contact with a person who is giving away their Burmese sacred cat. She apparently moved to Benin and her kitten is placed in a transportation company there. The person is asking for my contact information and €110 for transportation costs. I became suspicious right away.
I came across a website with numerous ads for purebred cats being given away. I find it suspicious.
I'm not sure if I can share the website's address...
Otherwise, the scammer is Eurnice Loprez (leurnice@yahoo.co.uk).
I have sent messages to the other ads on the site; if they also turn out to be scams, I will let you know and will provide the emails of these people as well as the name of the site.

A few hours ago, I came across an ad regarding the donation of a Birman sacred kitten. I contacted the person, who replied that she is a French tourist and has been in Benin for a few days... the same goes for the transport company (as in other scams); her address is leurnice@yahoo.co.uk; be careful of them.

Announcement gives Chartreux kitten on marché.fr from: grange 2014: n°61016128
Supposedly from Paris but after a response, it turns out that he cannot keep his animal and despite sending photos in the attachment, it appears that the address 678 high road london, greater london N12 4pt is not accurate after precise research and he completely omits the fact that a passport is required for the said kitten "Charlie" for transport from one country to another... I find it shameful to take advantage of animals and the people who truly love them... beware of the ad currently on marché.fr offer from 28/7/2014.

    Hello,

I too have just experienced the same scam regarding a sacred kitten from Burma. In the ad, the person in question was in Strasbourg, and later in the email he sent me, he said he had gone to Benin for professional reasons... Anyway, this guy's name is JEAN CLAUDE MASALO. Here are the exchanged emails with this GUY; ***SO BE AWARE OF THE KITTEN SCAM BY MR. MASALO JEAN CLAUDE IN BENIN*****

    Hello

I contacted the carrier, and I inform you that the fees must be paid before delivery so that the deliverer can have the transaction documents for the kitten at your home. Without the transport fees, the delivery will not take place. We need some fees to establish the papers. So if you agree to cover the fees for the carrier, please send me your exact delivery address so that we can establish the transaction; then I will send you the details to which you will send the Western Union Money Order.

Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Mr. Jean Claude

Since you wish to take Eole from the middle, there is no problem; please send me your exact delivery address so we can establish the transaction papers for the kitten at your home, but the transaction takes 24 hours.
And for the payment, it will be via Western Union Money Order to the carrier's details who is responsible for delivering the kitten to your home.
If you are interested, please respond.

Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Hello Mr. Jean Claude,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your response; however, I would like to have some additional information. The kittens in the photo are beautiful, but my partner has a preference for the kitten in the middle (among the three, the one in the center) with the well-defined brown spots... so I would like to know if that is indeed Eole?

And regarding the payment of the transport fees, how do you proceed?

Otherwise, please know that this kitten will receive a lot of attention and love; I grew up with 6 cats at home (well, at my parents'), but currently my partner and I really want to welcome one...

Thank you in advance for this additional information.

Looking forward to hearing from you

    Best regards

    Philippe.

    Hello

I want to tell you that I am indeed willing to give you my sacred kittens of Burma lilac point because I just left the country for Benin. My work does not allow me free time to take care of the kittens.
That is why I decided to give them away for good care and send them to France.
Here is some information about my kittens:
Sacred kittens of Burma lilac point. Dana de l'esterel, microchip n°250269602339927, gave birth on 05/22/2009 to three sacred kittens of Burma not registered, including Eole, male lilac point kitten, microchip n°250268500212840. He will be available from 08/24/09. He is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed. Sociable, loves children.
I am giving them away due to surplus, and a contribution towards transportation costs amounting to €120.
I would like to hear from you afterward and am available.
If you are interested in taking my kittens, please send me your exact delivery address in the following manner:

    NAME.....................................................
    FIRST NAME................................................
    DELIVERY ADDRESS...............
    COUNTRY.......................................................
    CITY.....................................................
    POSTAL CODE....................................

If you are really interested in having these kittens, there is no problem; I am in contact with a private carrier who knows everything about animal transport and who will take care of the transaction to deliver them safely to you.
Here are some photos of my kittens attached.

Thank you for giving me a favorable response.

It's funny, really, these scammers who pretend to be women, and all of them say: contact my husband...
Of course, these scammers are all guys, young ones too...

And be cautious with England, which serves as a cover for these West African scammers... Phone numbers starting with +44 70x..... are Flextel numbers that forward your calls to Africa... (roaming).
These numbers can be obtained remotely. All West African scammers claiming to be in Great Britain use this system. And it's unnecessary to mention the surcharges you will have to pay if you call these numbers...

      Hello,
after an ad on Le Bon Coin, I received textually the same emails as Azerty76 with the same spelling mistakes except that they talked to me about Chartreux kittens with photos of Exotic Shorthairs and Persians (and on top of that, they think we're idiots)

In any case, I suspected a scam, and with just one click on Google, I stumbled upon this forum that confirmed my doubts!
So thank you all for your information.

Thank you for your testimony, voca_33.

In order for it to be complete, please post any information you have about this scammer:
    - his name (fake name of course, or usurped identity, which is more serious)
    - his email
    - his phone number(s)
This way, he will be easily identifiable on search engines if someone comes into contact with him again and has doubts.

    Good evening,
all these people are not just giving away their kittens!! Be careful! You can find all these names in the donation of vehicles without a license, and yes, I have been looking for a kitten since Christmas, especially a Sacred Birman and a vehicle without a license, and all these scammers you mention are involved in all areas. Now I am doing checks on Google, be vigilant, they are in LONDON, either in Togo or in Benin and all have the same excuse: either it's due to the death of my wife, I'm giving away, etc.... or it's the fault of the African sun!!!! And everything else is just a way to scam the good people!!!!

    Hello

Thank you, after a few clicks and reading all your messages, I’m glad to have avoided a nice scam: last night while looking for a second Sacred Birman kitten, I found an enticing ad. I sent an email to the advertiser on Le Bon Coin and today I received an email saying that this kitten is in Africa and cannot stand the heat... etc, etc... Of course, there was a number, I called and on the phone, I spoke to a very insistent person of African descent who promised me that if I gave him my address, I would have the kitten by tomorrow. I promised him an answer tonight to sidestep the conversation and did some research online, and that’s when I understood everything. I will turn to a serious breeder in France, this story has taught me a lesson! !!!!!!!!!!!

    His "name": Samuel Duches.

I just received EXACTLY the same email a moment ago, for a Sacred Birman kitten named Florence, it's the same people...
I was suspicious too and luckily by searching on Google I came across this forum.
I found the ad on annonceschatons.com, there are so many like this.
And of course the photos are so adorable that you might tend to believe just about anything at first (even if an ad for a FREE purebred cat is totally improbable).... I shouldn't have even responded to the ad...
Thank you for the testimonial and good luck to everyone in your search for kittens.

    Hello
In the case of puppies or kittens
Article L214-8 of the Rural Code
Only dogs or cats registered in a genealogical book recognized by the minister responsible for agriculture may be designated as purebred dogs or cats.
Any publication of an offer to transfer cats or dogs, regardless of the medium used, must include the identification number provided for in Article L. 324-11-2 of the Labor Code or, if its author is not subject to the requirements laid out in Article L. 324-10 of the same code, include either the identification number of each animal or the identification number of the mother who gave birth to the animals, as well as the number of animals in the litter.
This advertisement must also include the age of the animals and whether or not they are registered in a genealogical book recognized by the minister responsible for agriculture.

    Hello
    The conditions for top listings
    7. Animals

If you wish to post an advertisement for the sale of an animal, you must comply with certain rules imposed by law.

Here is the list of mandatory mentions:

    • According to Article 276-5 of the Rural Code, only dogs and cats over eight weeks old may be transferred for a fee. Therefore, the advertisement must state the age of the animals and ensure, in case of sale, that this period has elapsed between birth and the publication of the advertisement.

    • Only dogs or cats registered in a genealogical book recognized by the Minister of Agriculture can be referred to as belonging to a breed (Article 276-5 of the Rural Code). Legally, the distinction between a purebred animal and another, even if they are identical, is the registration in the L.O.F. (Livre des Origines Françaises). An advertisement can thus be written as “selling a Chartreux cat” only if the animal is registered in the L.O.F. If not, the ad must be phrased as “cat of Chartreux type.” The ad must leave no ambiguity regarding the animal's breed status and must mention the existence or absence of registration in the L.O.F.

    • If you are posting your ad as a professional (breeder), you must indicate your Siren number.

    • If you are posting your ad as a private individual, you must mention either the registration number of each sold animal or the registration number of the female that gave birth to the animals, along with the number of animals in the litter.

    • Any animal sold for free or for a fee must be tattooed and vaccinated (Article L214-5 of the Rural Code).

In summary, your ad must contain:

    • The age of the animals (Only dogs and cats over eight weeks old can be sold for a fee),
    • The breed status of the animal and whether it is registered in the L.O.F.,
    • The Siren number for a professional,
    • The registration number of each sold animal or the registration number of the female that gave birth to the animals, as well as the number of animals in the litter if the ad is posted by a private individual,
    • The mention “tattooed” and the mention “vaccinated.”

Specific characteristics related to certain breeds of dogs.

The transfer of certain breeds of dogs, deemed “dangerous,” is regulated. The sale of “attack dogs” is legally prohibited.

All of this is nice, but the ad/scam was written legally.
      Here is what it says:
Norwegian kittens looking for a trustworthy family that has experience with kittens, a family that can take good care of them and provide them with more love and affection. The kittens will be available with their first vaccination and identification.
Norwegian kittens born on 11/17/2008, LOOF parents (mother's identification 250269600197781), 1 female and 2 males.
      Thank you for contacting me.

If you read the ad, it sounds good, but as soon as you get in touch with the person, they tell you that they live in Togo or Benin and that the cats are in a shelter there.

I informed the site that the ad was illegal. I will see if they will take it down...

    Hello,

I am copying an email I received about 4-month-old Birman kittens!
I think we can add this to the list of scams! The transport website works, but having someone online who speaks proper French is impossible!

    From: sonia.hori@yahoo.fr
    Subject: Birman Kittens LOOF

I want to inform you that I am currently on a mission in PORTO-NOVO. If I wanted to GIVE my Kittens (newborn) it is simply for reasons related to my lack of availability to provide them with more love. Furthermore, I inform you that my Kittens are vaccinated and tattooed, and they have all their papers up to date.
If you are still interested, you will only have to cover the shipping and delivery costs with the TRANSPORT EUROPA company (www.europ-transport.tk), which will deliver them to your home. For more details and information, please feel free to contact me.
