Hello,
Here, after a mistake on my part while trying to install a patch for my sharing software, my computer asked me to restart. Everything went well until the Windows logo, and then bam, blue screen. I restart in safe mode, same thing, blue screen. I insert my Windows installation DVD and try a repair; I restart and I'm happy to reach my desktop thinking everything is fine, but I get this error message from several applications and services: the specified service does not exist as an installed service. I attempt a system restore, but cannot access the restore service nor any services at all.
Do I have to reinstall the system, or is there a way to reactivate all my services?
Note: the computer starts, I can access the internet, but I am deprived of many of my software; please help me.

Here it is, I solved the problem by searching a little on the net, it actually has to do with: "User Account Control". I did this: start the computer in safe mode, run msconfig, go to tools, select "Disable User Account Control", click on run. A command prompt appears saying "Operation successful". Finally, restart the computer and everything works again.
There you go, I was afraid I would have to reinstall the system.
Thanks Zaboukou for responding anyway. Bye

Hello
Before performing a repair with the commands fixboot and fixmbr, do this:
Restart in safe mode, but choose the option
Safe Mode Command Prompt.
Type sfc /scannow
then type shutdown /r (to restart).

Hello Jey66170
If a repair wasn't sufficient, then yes, reinstall. The patches change Windows quite a bit, and often in an irreversible way.
See you!

Generally, it’s the F8 key, but it depends on the brands of PCs (F2, F4, etc.)
to be pressed right at the startup.
