Google Update is responsible for updating all Google software that is installed on your computer.

I haven't checked, but IF what you're saying is true, the 'after a few hours' is unacceptable.

An uninstallation must be done immediately whenever we wish and without delay (with a reboot if necessary). The user should never suffer; they must control their environment, so the app should be removed promptly at their request... that's a standard... so I'm surprised (I don't have time to verify).

A software that cannot be uninstalled is it not a malware or spyware condemnable by French law through LCEN?

Google lies! The uninstallation proposed by BliBlaBloum is only partial.
To really uninstall it, you need to fiddle with the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Google Update.
You also need to remove the add-on of the same name in Firefox....

To disable programs that start automatically without your consent, you need to perform a small manipulation. First of all, you should know that every time you install a program, in 80% of cases, it starts at the same time as your OS (Windows). Sometimes, without paying attention, when we install a program, we forget to uncheck the box "start the program at Windows startup." In that case, in the future, make sure to uncheck this famous box when you install any program.

ON WINDOWS VISTA AND SEVEN (WINDOWS 7):

In Vista and Seven, the "Run" command does not appear in the Start menu.

Type "Run" in "Search" to find and access the "Run" Command.

Use the shortcut key "WIN" + "R" key (press Win+R simultaneously).

MY solution on XP, disable google update services:
- open control panel.
- Administrative tools
- Services
Then sort the services in alphabetical order (or not, but it's more of a hassle to find)

Find the 2 "google update" services, right-click on them, properties, startup type, choose disabled.
This method will allow you to restart it if you feel the need.

Oh, I thought it was my antivirus slowing down my PC, and tonight I just saw that indeed Google had scheduled updates every hour. Pffff. In Task Scheduler, I simply right-clicked on Update, then Properties, and unchecked ACTIVE at the bottom. I hope it works and that I could help some people.

Hello, I had a folder in Appdata/roaming/ called google, with a nice file "Google updater" inside, but despite showing hidden folders, I couldn't find it. So I went through the command prompt to delete this invisible folder and all its contents.

Hello, it's simple: kill the process in the task manager, then go to program files, delete the Google folder, and there you go, no more issues, it will be gone.

And even I think it's a hassle for those who only want to use one Google software.

Leave it because otherwise your Google products won't be updated and moreover it's a very lightweight utility that takes up less than 1% of your speed.

I also found myself with Google Update after quickly installing another software; I canceled the installation of Google Chrome before it finished, but the thing still managed to make itself at home. It's puzzling why it's in the list of services if we can't control it.

The solution is very simple: kill the process (or use Unlocker) and delete the program files/google folder. It doesn't cause any issues upon reboot.
