Hello,
since my daughter rarely uses her PC, I wanted to go in to do her updates!
At startup, I saw the message at the bottom of the screen "press to del enter setup", I turned off the PC and now at startup there's nothing on the screen and the green and red lights on the central unit are on and it's beeping
what should I do??
thank you for your help,
a mom who isn't quite tech-savvy yet!

I started the PC by tapping F8, unfortunately nothing happens and the central unit beeps continuously and they are long beeps!
I have to go to work at 3 PM but you can continue to give me other manipulations to do, I will happily follow your advice, thank you all and have a sunny day.

Hi
So this sentence means that by pressing the DEL key, you can access the options (setup) of your startup (BIOS). This line is normal and legitimate.
I suggest you restart the computer. Upon startup, tap the F8 key, you will arrive at a black page with a list of startup options:
Non-exhaustive list:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode (with Networking)
Last Known Good Configuration (this is the one we are interested in)
So select that and confirm, and you should normally return to the last configuration of the computer before the crash
I’m waiting to hear from you to know if the problem is resolved =)

Yes
So to keep it simple, msn does not work on linux but there are equivalents:
Pidgin (personally I use this one because it supports many different messaging services: yahoo, msn, jabber, etc...)
What messaging service is installed on their linux?

The message was:
"press del to enter setup"
which means
press the "del" key to access the setup (of the BIOS)
it's an informational message - we won't take it into account -
turning off the PC during the BIOS loading does not cause it to break down
completely turn off the PC, unplug it, press and hold the "RESET" key for 30 seconds
plug it back in and turn it on
what happens?
does the PC beep in a defined sequence or continuously? very important; number of beeps, long or short, please note very precisely!

found elsewhere:
Sometimes during a hardware surge (coming from the Power Supply), all components will freeze and refuse to start for fear of causing damage. In a case like this, I advise you to unplug the power supply from the wall, disconnect the power cable from the motherboard, remove the battery from the motherboard, wait about 30 minutes (better safe than sorry), and then reassemble everything in reverse order. This way, the capacitors in your system will have time to discharge. The reason your PC started again is because of this. While you were disassembling it, the capacitors discharged, and the motherboard realized it was no longer dangerous.
Here is what you need to do now. Given that you had major problems with your Power Supply, some parts may have been damaged. Do a visual inspection. Are the capacitors leaking (is there any dried liquid on top of them? Are they bulging?) Additionally, I recommend using a multimeter to check all the connectors of your power supply to see if it’s malfunctioning. Personally, I wouldn’t take any chances; it’s a component that can cause significant damage. Given the cost, it might be worth investing in a replacement.
You can also go to the manufacturer’s website of your motherboard and, using your system’s BIOS model, check the Beep Code Error. This will tell you what each beep means.

but also:
Long beeps indefinitely, RAM problem. Try with another stick. Also check that the stick that is inside is properly seated; if not, take it out and put it back in
info:
If the PC emits beeps, it has detected a hardware problem, so the solution for a good tinkerer is to disassemble or disconnect the peripherals in the PC, CD drive, graphics card, etc., leaving only one hard drive
Restart and test after which installation (reinstall one peripheral at a time) the beeps return
Otherwise, customer service

I also have an option in mind:
By booting it from a live CD like Ubuntu, we could run tests on the system and simultaneously locate the bug (hardware or otherwise)?
Finally, it's something to consider depending on the situation =)

I remind you that this is a person who tripped over "press to del enter setup," so they never look at their computer
before the explorer appears...
so a live CD, Linux on top of that... where do you expect them to get it from?

I have never applied this technique (unknown), I surely have a live CD but I prefer using BartPE

I practice it to recover certain XP systems, but it requires knowledge of system files.
However, not knowing much about Linux, recovering your system will be more difficult.
Here are the links regarding the live CD:
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/generalite/live_cd
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/installation/obtention?redirect=1
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/tutoriel/comment_graver_cd_ubuntu_depuis_windows
I think the explanations regarding its use are very clear.
The aim is, and I repeat: validating a hardware bug and why it is listed by the live CD.

Hi k@mu]i[
I'm happy with myself, I opened the CPU, removed the battery from the motherboard, waited 30 minutes, and then reconnected everything. The computer performed an automatic system check, and then everything worked again. I'm relieved and after some reflection, I remember that last week we had two brief power cuts on the same evening, I'm sure that's what caused it! What a hassle!! And it's good to know, thanks for your advice, and I also want to thank redbart I believe who was in conversation with us! Thanks again, guys!!

Hello everyone, I just read your conversations and I have a big head, you know what, I am going to open the case and check if everything is normal with the connections and if the fans are working! Then I'll decide what to do, the PC is an old one refurbished with Windows XP home and not Linux lol! I'll let you know if I find anything, thanks for debating the topic!!
Uh, I'm new to the forum, can you tell me how to proceed to mark a problem as resolved? In any case, I don't regret signing up for this forum, I have learned some things, thank you again and have a good afternoon as well!
limpus linux lite v1.0.3.E
she doesn't have instant messaging for the moment and only has her hotmail.fr address.

After searching, I found a tutorial for her to update her Linux as well as the repositories (very important), the installation of software, and the problems encountered:

Another link (for aMSN and aMule)
http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 9502631 installation logiciels sous linpus linux lite
Another one but for Pidgin (although going through Linux and its add/remove, it can be installed without going through manual commands in the terminal or konsole)
http://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/telecharger 131 pidgin portable
I hope I was able to help
I await your news to know if everything is going well
(I don't know this distribution of Linux, but with a little elbow grease and practice, and especially sourcing, you can find it =) )

She has Aspire One mail 1.01.3013 Build 20080616 in instant messaging; we just found this by clicking on Help and About.
Well, as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures =)
So to avoid any unnecessary headaches, I suggest you don’t install anything but rather use an online service like web messenger: just your username and password and we can connect via this messenger service directly =)
https://www.msn.com/fr-fr/
Just need to give it a try ;)
(I used to do this to avoid installing a heavy messaging app like Windows Live)

In any case, thank you very much for all this advice. I think I'm going to stop here, especially since she has her old computer (which works now) in her room, so the mini laptop will just be used for going online and if I remember correctly, she asked for it as a gift to use for writing her notes!
My daughter always has a working PC, that's what matters, I'm not going to stress over it.
There aren't thirty-six solutions; you really need to be knowledgeable in the field! Have a good evening and thank you again. I'm going to move on to something else because my eyes hurt!

Oki
However, tell her that by using webmessenger, she will be able to access the instant messaging directly (I confirm the access because I just tried it on my linux-ubuntu, so she should have no issues)
If you have any problems, feel free to contact me again via CCM through Private Messaging (MP) or ask k@mu]i[
Thank you, I also wish you a good evening and see you soon on CCM
