Hello everyone, here is my problem: since I installed pack 2 under Windows XP, in the taskbar I have two screens side by side and it says status: limited or no connectivity. When I tried to disable it I could no longer connect to the Internet, and to get it back I had to restore to the last restore point. So if someone can help me. Thanks in advance, bye

Hi everyone! What a crazy thing this disconnectivity is! Certainly, between that and the lowID of eMule there’s work to be done!
First I’m replying to Claude, regarding disabling the disconnect alert. As its name implies, it’s an alert; turning it off would be like closing one's eyes to the problem and not solving it.
To solve a problem, nothing beats harassing various forums! Besides, you learn the basics at lightning speed...
Anyway, to fix this issue, you need to do the following:
First note your IP address in advance (start / run / cmd.exe or command / ipconfig), as well as the subnet mask (which is just below the IP address).
These data will be used later.
Then:
- Control Panel
- Network Connections
- Local Area Connection
- Properties
- General tab
- Click once on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to highlight it
- Properties
- Check "Use the following IP address"
- Enter the IP address noted earlier and the subnet mask
- Click OK
Me who has TRIED EVERYTHING, seen everything on forums, lived through it (lol), and unfortunately without success, I can assure you that this trick immediately removed the cursed icon from the bottom!
And it properly restored my connection.
There you go, I hope this will help save some people from a nervous breakdown, so I didn’t go crazy for nothing!!!
Allez, ciao and good luck to everyone.-
Hello,
I also have a limited connection problem:
- I am connected to the Internet by cable
- an Ethernet cable connects a laptop to the cable modem
The connection with the laptop worked for 3 days and then suddenly disappeared without me installing any particular programs
I tried Haraldinho's above trick, the limited connection message has indeed disappeared, the status of my local network connection is now "connected" but the problem is that nothing loads when I launch an internet application...
When I right-click on the connection and choose Repair, Windows tells me there is no problem
My IP address starts with 169.254.xxx.xxx, is the problem due to the IP starting with 169 and not 192? how can I change the IP?
Basically, I managed to get rid of the limited connection problem but now I'm really annoyed because I have no idea where the problem might come from!
Thank you for your help -

Hello,
I had the same problem as you (in fact, I feel like I have or have had everyone's problems!!)
I just needed to re-share the files in my ADSL connection (network connection, network connection properties, network management), and after that it was fine
You don't give any details, maybe it will be fine too?!-

Hello,
I have a small problem with my wifi, maybe someone has already known my problem, I have Windows XP and in wifi connection it only works if I am 1 or 2 meters away, if I move away... nothing!!! while my radar detects the box, and my second laptop which has Vista works perfectly at any distance.
When I was with Orange, this problem did not exist. Could someone send me this light or fix this misadventure, with all my thanks in advance. -

you go to network connections, right-click on your internet connection (it bears the name of your wired connection),
there you should have a tab called network sharing or something like that, at any rate, you look for where to check file sharing and the permission for other users on the network to connect via the connection
by disconnecting and restarting the internet connection, it should be fine
if it isn't clear enough, don't hesitate to tell me-
mmh... i know it dates from 2004 but now I reinstalled pack2 and suddenly all internet connections drop to 0... Anyway, okay to reinstall the modem etc, but what is the path to allow others on the network etc.. like you said? Because I searched in vain to find this famous checkbox... :(
Thanks a lot in advance ... -

Hello Danido 78,
I’m very glad I could help you out.
You know, when I have a problem myself, I’m really happy that someone helps me, so putting a bit of my knowledge at the service of the community is a pleasure, even more when there’s the joy of being thanked.
Best regards. -
A big thank you Claude for this tip, I just did what you told me and it worked on the first try; I was afraid of disconnecting everything, but as they say you should always listen to the teachers. I was only disconnected from the cable, and then I reconnected without any problems. Thanks again to you Claude. Bye

Me too I’ve got this little problem
I tried to delete and reinstall my software but I can’t
I’m connected via an ADSL modem and I’m with AOL as my provider
could someone re-explain the steps even more simply because I’m not dumb but I’m having trouble (no offense to blondes ^^)
thanks in advance -
I have exactly the same problem. The wired connection works on my desktop with SP1, and now I'm trying to use it by connecting the Ethernet cable to my new laptop with SP2 by default, and nothing, limited connection error, the same :(

Hello Cric, I’m sorry because I don’t know the answer, only that I wish you success because I know it’s annoying to search for answers to our problems. Courage and good luck. BYE BYE

Good evening ssosodef, as Claude explained to you earlier, in your limited or nonexistent connection, you right-click on it, you should see Properties, General tab at the bottom of the window, and you should see 4 connections that are checked; well uncheck them. That's all and it works. Especially click on the connection that has a small yellow triangle. If you don't understand everything, explain to me what appears when you do these manipulations. Courage and good night.

Hello to everyone who has a limited or non-existent connection problem: if you have Windows Service Pack 2, delete it and reboot everything as before without problems!! If you have CCleaner, remove it with this program!! and restart your PC!! If you have the Windows patch below KB951748!! Remove it as well!! to do this go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and above, display updates; search for the patch cited above and remove it. Hoping to have helped you, see you soon, bye speedy

Hello my son whom I’m trying to help remotely because he has no internet connection since he is in his student dorm room with a modem provided by the residence has the same problem as many people: limited or no internet connection! Windows Pack 2! Does removing update KB951748 really solve this problem, or could it be the residence’s connection with perhaps an insufficient DHCP address pool? all the modem's LEDs are on, he managed to get the connection once but it quickly disconnected and nothing since. Thank you for replying so I can “save” him and he doesn’t throw the PC out the window (it’s not a laptop!!!) BV
-
-
thank you for your reply but it still doesn’t work
he has 1) removed the KB951748 pack and restarted the computer, 2) unchecked the box next to "notify me when connection is limited or unavailable" as indicated in other forum posts, 3) reset the Windows network stack by going through the back with the commands netsh int ip reset all and netsh winsock reset catalog, 4) he also disabled the Windows firewall, still nothing! (these 4 solutions are suggested on the forum)
He is connected by cable; his IP address starts with 169. instead of 192 (at the ISP) the modem LEDs are on, he gets the connection briefly then after 10 minutes it’s gone! his internet provider is Neo-Services in Marseille; if that helps you figure out how to solve this problem besides calling them, it seems they come every day to his building and many people complain about not having internet:
I conclude that the problem comes from the provider who cannot solve it!
Who can give me other solutions to try
in advance a big thank you

Hello,
I have a similar problem that hasn’t been resolved by following the tips above. I’m not sure my issue comes from Windows XP SP2. In fact, the PC can’t even connect to the router because the IP address assigned to the connection is not in the router’s range (between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.254) but starts with 169.254. The problem is the same whether using a USB or Ethernet connection. If I ping the router, I get error 65. The router works because I have an Internet connection with another PC.
Please help me.-
Have you solved your problem? Because I have almost the same issue and could you help me as fast as possible before I throw it out the window, grrr.
On my desktop I browse without problems but on my laptop no web page is displayed.
It also shows an IP address like 169.254.79........ instead of the 192.168... range from the ADSL Wi-Fi modem. Could you please help me??? -

In the case of limited or non-existent connectivity, checking the box doesn’t change anything.
What you actually need to do is assign a fixed IP address in 192.168.0.X to the network card when you are on Ethernet or to the network bridge representing the modem via USB.
That will solve the problem for sure. -
Thanks Dalby for your answer. Actually, I have internet via cable and I’m not very good with computers, although I’m making efforts. If you could explain a bit better how to do this connection, thanks in advance, bye-bye. By the way, I’m afraid I’ll disable something if I don’t do it right. Thanks again.

Hello Claude and thank you again for everything. It’s very kind of you to have replied, and now what a pleasure not to see at startup this limited or non-existent connection. I always wondered what could be disconnected. At least you managed to solve my problem. A big thank you again and thanks to everyone who takes the time to help others. BYE bye and thank you very much.

Sorry GURU for not getting back to you; it’s just not me who can provide an answer, Claude a bit higher on the list was the one who managed to solve my problem. If you can get in touch with him, maybe he’ll be able to respond. As I mentioned, I’m not good with computers. I wish you success. Good luck and sorry. BYE BYE

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE AND FOR THAT SOLUTION THAT HELPED ME A LOT, EVERYTHING IS WORKING THANKS TO YOU

Thank you net_papy, but the problem we’re talking about here is definitely software-related.
I’ve tried most of the solutions mentioned here and the problem keeps coming back again and again. It’s sometimes resolved, but always ends up returning. I don’t understand how such an important problem has been dragging on for so long (the first post apparently dates to 2004), it’s unacceptable on Microsoft’s part.
If anyone still has a solution that isn’t mentioned here, I’m all ears because I’ve had it with tossing my keyboard out the window every time this problem occurs :@ -

This problem is due to a DHCP problem. Apparently, SP2 prevents DHCP for the local network. A solution is to manually assign IP addresses or uninstall SP2.
This message also appears when you use a network card at a fixed rate. It is always advised to set your network card speed to automatic.
There you go, I hope it will help some of you :) -
Thank you Fred for your advice, I fixed this problem thanks to the advice of a site member, in fact a nice guy like you who took the time to reply to me. Thanks again to everyone and to you Fred. ACTUALLY my problem right now is that since I installed SP2, I no longer have Microsoft Autoroute, nor Ancarta. It asks me to insert the 2003 CD-ROM, so what should I do to find it? Thanks in advance. BYE BYE
