Convert .flac to .mp3/.wav Solved/Closed

Question

Hello everyone!!
I just got an audio concert in .flac, but how can I burn it to a CD (that is, convert it to .mp3 or .wav for Nero or Windows Media Player)????
I'm not great with computers (that's even an understatement -lol-), so any help would be appreciated since I’ve already found a program to play .flac files (=foobar2000).

Convert a .FLAC audio file to a .WAV audio file

1. Open the .FLAC audio files in a window (Do not leave them in a compressed form like WinZip, decompress them so they can be read one by one)

2. Take the software foobar 2000 (the one with the fox head on it)

3. Open the software and drag and drop the .FLAC audio files

4. Once the list of .FLAC tracks appears, go to Foobar2000 (left-click) and go to preferences

5. Once in preferences, go to components diskwriter and check the audio conversion format
Normally the format should be WAV PCM fixed point in 16 bits

6. If that's correct, go back to the .FLAC audio tracks. Select all and right-click. Go down to Convert, then Run Conversion

7. The software will then ask you to Select file writer preset. Normally the format should be WAV (PCM, fixed-point)

8. If that's correct, click OK and choose a file to recover them.

That's it, it's done

No problem.  For example, you can use Foobar2000, and the DiskWriter module of Foobar will produce WAV files from almost any audio file (flac, mp3, ...)  It's free: http://www.foobar2000.org/

Hi,

just a thought: if it's for burning to CD, it's better to keep the wav and not use mp3. Indeed, the flac format offers a quality that is significantly superior to mp3. Converting flac to wav and then to mp3 results in a loss of sound quality (especially when going to mp3...)

This message is addressed to devil1 in particular.
Wanting to convert flac files to wav for burning, I installed foobar2000 (also to play them).
I followed your method for the conversion but I noticed there were options for wav.
Indeed, besides the PCM 16-bit fixed point mode, there is also a PCM 32-bit floating point mode.
Not being a specialist, I would like to know which of the two to use, and why not know the difference between the two.

It is unnecessary to use 32-bit WAV: most software does not support it.

Traditional audio CDs are all 16-bit.
16-bit WAV files are therefore sufficient.

(At 48.1 kHz, like CDs: there's also no need to use higher sampling rates).

And it works! :o)  It installs in a few seconds and after that, I was able to directly burn my .flac files onto an audio CD!  So, no more need to convert your .flac files to mp3 and lose quality!

You have an even simpler way to convert .flac to .mp3:

- Download Audacity for free
- Then open this software once installed
- Open the chosen .flac file inside
- Click on File -> Export Selection -> (give a name to the selection.mp3) -> Save
and there you go, you will have your mp3
