INSTALL PHANTASMAGORIA ON VISTA

TIGROUFOU -
 Sandy31 -
Hello,
I absolutely want to relive nights of terror with an excellent PC game that's starting to date. Phantasmagoria.
I've scoured the internet without an answer; I can't get it to install on Vista.
I've used properties to change compatibility, I've used DOSBox, I've disabled UAC without success.
If anyone has the miracle solution to make it run perfectly on Vista, I'll send them a signed photo of Corbier.

Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.6

Hello, I searched for a long time too and I found it.
Here, download the game from LTF (you have to download all the ISOs):

https://abandonware-france.org/ltf_abandon/ltf_jeu.php?id=447&fic=liens

Then you decompress them and rename them to ph1, ph2, etc. (the name shouldn't be long, otherwise there will be a problem).

Create a directory in C: and name it jeuxdos. In this same directory, create another one and call it iso. Put all your ISOs there. (so you should have 7 normally).

Start dosbox (so you have the two black windows opening).
Type:
mount c c:/jeuxdos
imgmount d c:/iso/ph1.iso -t iso
d:
install

The game will install, follow the instructions given.

Then, to launch the game more easily, go to start => dosbox => dosbox.conf, right-click and run as administrator (to be able to save).

At the end of the conf file, add:
mount c c:/jeuxdos
imgmount d c:/iso/ph1.iso c:/iso/ph2.iso c:/iso/ph3.iso (etc. up to the 7th iso) -t iso
c:
cd sierra
cd scarydos
phcd (which is the command to type to play)

The last command I typed can also be put directly in dosbox but you have to type it every time, so it's better in the conf file.

There you go, I hope I helped you, keep me updated @++

Hello, hello!

So I downloaded Phantasmagoria from Abandonware, I installed it, I can play Chapter 1, but when it asks me to switch CDs, it doesn't work. I tried the CTRL+F4 shortcut but it doesn't seem to work; could someone please help me? This game is important to me and I really want it to work on my PC (I'm on Vista).

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

Have you found the solution?
I have exactly the same problem (on VISTA as well)
If so, how did you proceed?

yvealain.

Hello,

I don't know if the post is still relevant, given its date of dispatch.
I've had the same problem and found the solution, so I'm trying to share it with everyone.
So, with DosBox, on Vista, install the game as explained in the various messages available on this site.
Then, when the system asks to change the CD, simultaneously press the keys:
CTRL ALT and F4
In the second DosBox window, a message appears
CD2 of 7 now active (or something like that)
Repeat the operation to switch to CD 3 or 4 etc., as many times as there are CDs to load.
Hoping this helps everyone.
Best regards
yvealain.

Hello, I have Vista. The game works perfectly and there are no issues changing chapters. Here’s how to do it:

Since the game does not work on Vista, you will need to get a small emulator. It’s free and very easy to install.
https://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Jeux/emulateurs/fiches/27476.html
Once installed, download your game Phantasmagoria:
https://abandonware-france.org/ltf_abandon/ltf_jeu.php?id=447&fic=liens
You have 7 ISO files + the manual.
Take them and at the end of your download, you will get RARs with the .text "lisezmoi" and your ISO each time.
That being said, create your game folder on your hard drive, let’s take C.

You create a gamesdos folder, and inside you then create an ISO folder.
Summary: C->gamesdos->ISO.
In your ISO folder, put ALL your game ISOs renaming them according to their order, as follows:
http://img7.hostingpics.net/pics/572494Sans_titre_1.png
You have your game, now you need to make it work!
You have your 7 "CDs" of the game in your possession (7 ISOs).

When you buy a game, you install the first CD in your computer.
We are going to do the same but instead of CDs, it will be with the ISOs.
Launch your DosBox emulator, it is the window with Z as the root that you will use. Thanks to Camille:
Type word for word with spaces:
mount c c:/gamesdos
imgmount d c:/iso/ph1.iso -t iso
d:
install

Follow the supplier's instructions and install it.

Instruction yvealain:
Finally, you add these lines to your emulator config at the very bottom of the page (To do this: Start>All Programs>"right-click" DosBox-Expand>Configuration>Edit Configuration):
[autoexec]
# The lines in this section will be executed at startup.

mount C c:/gamesdos
pause
imgmount D c:/iso/ph1.iso c:/iso/ph2.iso c:/iso/ph3.iso c:/iso/ph4.iso c:/iso/ph5.iso c:/iso/ph6.iso c:/iso/ph7.iso -t iso
pause
c:
pause
cd sierra
pause
cd scarydos
pause
phcd.bat

Follow the instruction and the game will start.

When you are asked to change CDs, press Ctrl+F4.

I'm glad I was able to install the game, thank you! But I can't get it to go fullscreen, how do I do that? Is this normal?
Thanks in advance

Hey!

Nice that you were able to install it!

So to go full screen it's alt + enter I think, or CTRL + Enter, give it a try.

And to switch CDs it's CTRL + F4

Have fun playing!!

Good evening,
I just read the conversation, and I saw that you managed to help someone download a game,
so here's the thing, I have a problem too downloading a game, let me explain,
A few years ago, I played the game, Phantasmagoria 2: Obsession Fatal, I have the CDs and everything, but I can't get them to work anymore, according to what I've seen on other forums, it's because I have Windows Vista,
do you know how I might be able to download this game so it works on Vista?
I love this game, and I would really like to play it again! It would be great if you could help me!
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I wanted to ask if someone could help me.
Actually, a few years ago I played the game Phantasmagoria 2: Obsession Fatal, and today I wanted to play it again but the CD no longer works. I'm wondering if anyone could help me and tell me where I could download it so that it works on my Windows Vista! Thank you very much in advance!

Well, I am your savior then
I made a phantasmagoria video so it works on XP and Vista without going through DOS =D you need to install it, do not run a config test, after the icon put it on your desktop and right-click properties and set compatibility to win 95 and set your resolution to the minimum, you can go to my site, go to video in the portal and there you go

Hi Melissab!

For Phantasmagoria 2, you can download it legally from this site: https://abandonware-france.org/.

Then follow the instructions I mentioned above...

Good luck, you'll see it's not hard and you don't need to burn any CDs!!

Is your CD2 properly mounted in your command line?

Hello,

I installed Phantasmagoria I and I'm running it under DosBox (DOSBOX-0.73).
There are no issues with chapter 1, the game runs smoothly (the sound, the graphics, ALT and ENTER keys to switch to fullscreen, etc... everything is perfect).
It gets complicated when I try to move to chapter 2; it asks me to insert CD-ROM 2 and press Enter to continue (or ESC to return to the menu).
No matter how many times I press ENTER, nothing happens.
I added "PAUSE" instructions in my pause file to see if there is a command error ==> nothing, the files are correctly mounted on d:
The file ph2.iso and all the others are mounted and present in the correct directory.
I'm using VISTA HOME PREMIUM.
No error messages...
Curiously, the ESC key works to exit the game.
Has anyone encountered this problem before?
How can I get out of it?
Thank you for your valuable advice.
Alain.

Hello,

I also have a problem changing the CD, alt + F4 doesn't do anything for me.
I have filled in the command lines as explained in the post.

I am on Vista Ultimate.
Thank you

Good evening and happy new year, albeit a bit late!
I tried hard to get Phantasmagoria I to work on Vista 64-bit
Well, with the help of your forum, it's clear that it works well.
Refer to: https://forum.pcastuces.com/la_virtualisation_cest_pas_facile-f1s172971.htm?page=4

I get it to work with the ISO files of the CDs. I can lend a hand if needed.
For XP, I run it with the original CDs. I currently can't manage with the ISOs.

To fix the ALT+ENTER issue: you need to set your screen to 800x600
before launching the game.

I tried D-Fend for launching and configuring .conf files:
it's a black screen. I'm struggling for now.

Hello,

I installed Phantasmagoria I and I am running it under DosBox (DOSBOX-0.73).
Phantasmagoria I was downloaded from AbandonWare, but I am the owner of the complete game on CD.
No problems with chapter 1, the game runs correctly (Sound, image, ALT and ENTER keys to switch to full screen mode, etc... everything is flawless and perfect).
(For the full screen mode with ALT and F4 keys, sometimes you need to repeat the operation until the display is correct...)
Things get complicated when I want to move to chapter 2; it asks me to insert CD-ROM 2 and press Enter to continue (or ESC to return to the menu).
I've pressed ENTER, but nothing happens.
I can't even say it crashes since nothing happens...
I added "PAUSE" instructions in my file to see if there is an error in the command ==> nothing, the files are properly mounted on D:
The ph2.iso file and all the others are mounted and present in the right directory.
Moreover, I don't think the issue lies in the mounting of files on the virtual CDROM D:, I believe the problem is elsewhere...
MSCDEX is properly mounted and activated.
For your information, here is what I have at the end of my CONF file

[autoexec]
# The lines in this section will be executed on startup.
mount C c:/jeuxdos
pause
imgmount D c:/iso/ph1.iso c:/iso/ph2.iso c:/iso/ph3.iso c:/iso/ph4.iso c:/iso/ph5.iso c:/iso/ph6.iso c:/iso/ph7.iso -t iso
pause
c:
pause
cd sierra
pause
cd scarydos
pause
phcd.bat

(At the risk of repeating myself, I really don't think the issue is there).
So I added PAUSE instructions to check for errors, but there's nothing to report...
I re-downloaded the ISO files from AbandonWare in case they weren't complete.
That didn't yield anything more.
I remind you that chapter 1 (thus CD1) works perfectly, no crashes.
I am on VISTA HOME PREMIUM SERVICE PACK 2 DOSBOX-0.73
No error messages...
Curiously, to exit the game, the ESC key works.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
If someone has faced this issue and found a solution, please let me know, that would be really nice...
How can I get out of this?
Thanks for your valuable advice. And if it's not too late, best wishes to all!
Yvealain.

Oops, little mistake in my previous message...
To switch to full screen mode, you need to press CTRL and ENTER simultaneously...
(This might need to be repeated several times for the display to be correct).
Sorry for the blunder...

It's not complicated when you open dosbox, two windows will appear:

- one with the game
- one showing the CD that is in it

When you're asked to change the CD, you press CTRL + F4 and look in the last window to see what it will display: yes, it has indeed mounted CD2.

And there in the game window, you just need to press ENTER.

Yes, it's possible, I managed to do it! Now I even play it on Windows 7!
Need instructions? Since the post is old, I will provide the steps if needed.
