Resume a broken download Solved

Question

Hello,
Here is my problem: I am using Firefox version 3.0.5. I am downloading a 560 MB file, and at 230 MB the download stops, and a window tells me "The download failed ...."
I go to the downloads list window and click on "resume" (on the right, like a PLAY icon from a music log). And there it resumes the download from the beginning. So I stop this download and delete it.
I then check that my partially downloaded file is indeed present on my hard drive: it is ... Phew
But how can I resume the download with this xxxxx.part file?

If the server supports the resume download function, follow these steps:

1- Move the partially downloaded file xxxx.part to another location away from where you usually put your downloaded files (just save it somewhere).
2- Restart the download as you did the first time and pause it a few seconds later.
3- Copy the saved xxxx.part file from the other location and overwrite the newly created xxxx.part file (you will be replacing a file of a few kilobytes with a file of several megabytes).
4- Go back to Firefox and resume the download. And there, the miracle happens, the 1% will become 70% or 80% (depending on what you managed to download before the interruption).

Yes,
I did try to insert this file "xxxxx.part" into Download Accelerator Plus (v7.02) but the latter refuses the said file.
But I am sure that from now on I will only use DAP which I had uninstalled because Firefox 3.0.5 is supposed to be able to resume an interrupted download.

little question .. what connection do you have to want to recover the piece of file already downloaded??? 560mb is nothing now...

ADSL 256, I am in the islands (Tahiti) and the connections are very expensive (like everything else!!!)
Initially, when the download started, Firefox's built-in manager estimated the duration at 3 hours and more.

Hello, I would like to know if it's possible to turn off and turn on a computer without canceling a download on Mega Manager. Or do I need to suspend the download first and then turn it off so that it doesn't get canceled? Thank you :)

It depends on which site you download from; there are some where you can resume the download and others where you can't, like Rapidshare for example. In any case, if Firefox does not allow you to resume the download, then you have to start over from the beginning.

I know the topic is a bit dated, but there is a much better solution (because every time I tried to move or rename the file, I got a window saying it was impossible because the file was being used by Google Chrome, so I ended up using a download manager, which allows you to manage everything like speed and the number of simultaneous downloads. You can even copy an infinite number of links that it will download by itself, one after the other if needed... If you lose your connection suddenly, it won’t lose anything. Personally, I use Mipony, it's very simple and effective and doesn’t mess up my downloaded files.

Good evening, I am writing because I too have download issues. I use Windows 7 and Google Chrome, and for a file, for example, of 200 or 300 MB, the file downloads. It shows 1 or 2 hours, then quickly drops to about 10-20 minutes, and then the download stops halfway. I would like to know how to fix this download problem that keeps stopping, apart from download managers, because the computer should normally be able to download files. Some time ago, I was able to download fairly well, and now I can't anymore. Thank you in advance for your help.
