Hello everyone, I thank you in advance for your responses, which I hope will be numerous and constructive ^^.
My equipment: HP Pavilion dv9649ef laptop
It's only 13 months old, so now it's out of warranty to my great dismay....
My problem is that for the past two days, I have been having great difficulty starting it
When I turn on my laptop, the screen lights up and a nice white screen with vertical stripes of various colors appears
These stripes disappear gradually until I get a completely white screen, and then black spots appear here and there on the screen that spread until my screen becomes completely black..... Then nothing happens, the hard drive stops.
Sometimes my laptop starts up correctly (it's rare) and tells me that it didn't shut down properly, then I can access Vista.
What I have already done.
Let my laptop cool down before restarting (no significant results)
A burst of air to clean it (nothing more)
System restore to a point before the problem (nothing either)
I don't have a lot of ideas about the problem; I suspect an issue with the graphics card, but since it works occasionally, I'm questioning it.
I am eagerly awaiting your responses
Thanks again

Damn, I have exactly the same problem with an HP Pavilion. So there’s no solution as far as I can see...

My Eee PC, when I turn it on, has a completely black screen with various colored lines on the left side, and if I wait, the colors change and my computer makes some noises. I don't know at all what to do; I'm not familiar with computers at all. Please help me. I'm eagerly waiting for your responses. Thank you very much in advance.

Hello, I have a similar problem with my HP Pavilion dv7, which is 1 month old... For the past 2 days, I've been noticing screen issues... the screen becomes slightly white, in stripes, and the mouse stops moving. Today, when I turned it on, the screen was completely white. Right now, it's working quite well, but it changes color sometimes...

Same thing with a HP laptop that’s 2 years old… Could it be junk? I have no way to access Windows, it gets stuck on the black screen after the colored bands… HELP!

I have the same issue with my Packard Bell laptop: NVIDIA 8600M GS graphics card. I managed to reboot it twice in a week, first by opening it normally and then by tilting it at a 45° angle. It might be a problem with the LCD inverter, but I'm looking to confirm that before purchasing the replacement part, so I will try to call technical support in the coming days.
If you find the solution, let me know. -
Hi, did you solve your screen problem? My LCD screen does exactly the same thing as yours: a white screen on startup with multiple vertical lines of all colors?
-
Yes and no, I will answer you....
Let me explain, I let my PC cool down for a while and without connecting it to the power supply, and I cross my fingers for a standard startup...
Now I have the choice to start Windows normally, which I do, and then I access Windows completely normally, but as soon as I launch a video or a program that will put a load on the graphics card, the PC crashes and freezes, and then it's back to the white screens, etc....
I don't know if it's really my graphics card, but it seems that it's the fact of putting a load on the graphics card that causes the PC to crash... Hence my question, is my card dead because if we don't use any video programs, it works fine....
I'm still at the same point, what to do...
I have searched online to see if it could be related to the drivers and updates for Vista....
If anyone has a solution, I'm all ears.- Hello, I just read your message and I have exactly the same problem as you. As soon as I press the power button, the screen is white with vertical lines of all colors, and then black spots appear, leading to a completely black screen. I can hear the rest running (hard drive and fan) but the screen remains black... Have you found a solution?? Before I send it for repair, especially since as a student, money is not exactly flowing...
Thank you in advance.

Hi, I'm the same, sorry but there's nothing to be done, you need to buy a new graphics card!

Yes, I'm going to try that on Monday on a workboat... And I went to see a repairman, who suspects the motherboard or the screen; in both cases, it's going to cost between 200 and 300 euros, great...
In the meantime, I tried to recover my hard drive with an external enclosure, and unfortunately (when you're out of luck...), it's missing about a millimeter or less in thickness for me to be able to connect the hard drive/enclosure connectors together! I'm fed up!!!
Wester Digital Scorpio WD 1600B EVS hard drive, Connectland enclosure (model at 25 euros at Fnac)
If anyone has a tip for that, I'm all ears!!!
Thanks in advance -
What I did was install a second screen and I project the image onto the other screen by pressing "Fn+F5". It really is a graphics card issue that makes the screen go out, but your screen can still work sometimes, it's weird yes...

Do you have the latest driver for the graphics card? If so, there's a hardware issue just like Bounboun's response. The card is "tired"!

Hello,
I had the same issue with an assembled tower.
Without starting my PC, the screen is white with multicolored vertical lines. I replaced the screen and it's working fine now.
I hope this can help you.
