MathType menu does not appear in Word Solved

Hello, with MathType on Windows XP, the MathType menu does not appear in Word, even after reformatting and reinstalling. Thank you for your help.

Hello,
I have been working with a MAC for a year and a half, especially with Word 2004 where I was able to easily install MATHTYPE. I now have Word 2008 and the necessary version of MATHTYPE 6 for Mac, which should work with Word 2008. However, I can't find the link that allows me to "embed" Mathtype into Word 2008. In Word 2004, I had to customize the toolbar by dragging a small icon (a square root with the Greek alpha underneath), but I haven't found that same icon in Word 2008, under "Insert" "Customize Toolbar." I would like to know how to use this equation editor software that is very practical for me and necessary. There is an "Equation Editor" in Word 2008, but it's the "light" version of Mathtype.
Could someone help me?

Hello,

following a Word update, I encountered this issue as well; the solution in my case is
relatively simple:

you need to launch Word

in the 'TOOLS' menu, then 'Templates and Add-ins', check the box for MathType Commands 5 For Word.dot

then click OK

restart Word and accept the modification... the menu should appear again.

I have the same problem. I checked the MathType Commands 5 For Word.dot box, clicked OK, and closed the document. When I reopen Word, it doesn't ask me anything, and the box is unchecked!

I followed the instructions below and it worked. (with Word 2003)

Adding a MathType Menu and Toolbar. To do this, copy the file "MathType Commands For Word 97.dot" (or equivalent) located in the folder C:\Program Files\Mathtype\Office Support to the local directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup (or Setup). Then, verify that Word uses this same directory for startup files, Tools Menu - Options - Default Folders - Startup Files. Restart Word for this change to take effect.

Dear Mumume, thank you for your response,
however: somehow I managed to do what you told me to do, I even managed to bring up the Mathtype window with the four uppercase "sigma", sporadically by the way because when I restart Word I have to go through the same steps again, but even so, when I click on these "sigma", nothing appears and the window to write equations does not show up either.
I don’t know where to click on the one hand to accept the changes and on the other hand for this window where equations are written to appear.

Use add-ins in Word

a) Locate the MathType 5 for Word.dot file. If you installed MathType in its default location (C:\Program Files), this file will be available at: C:\Program Files\MathType\Support Office\. If you installed MathType in a different location, the path must be adjusted accordingly.
B) Locate the MathPage.wll file. If you installed MathType in its default location (C:\Program Files), this file will be available at: C:\Program Files\MathType\MathPage\. If you installed MathType in a different location, the path must be adjusted accordingly.
You will need to copy these two files to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user account="" name="">\Application Support\Microsoft\Word\Startup
OR
C:\Documents and Settings\<user account="" name="">\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup
If, due to a custom installation, your Startup folder is in a different location, Microsoft Word 2007 can help you find it. Here’s how to locate the trusted Startup folder location using Word.
1. Launch Word 2007
2. In the Office Button dropdown menu, choose Word Options (at the bottom)
3. In the window that appears, select "Advanced Options"
4. In the next window, choose "File Locations"

5. Then on "Startup Folder": this will tell you where to copy the two files MathType 5 for Word.dot and MathPage.wll files

When you start Word 2007, you will see a new tab called Add-ins. Click on this tab to reveal the MathType toolbar and the MathType menu.
Another note: you can also display the two tabs by customizing the Quick Access Toolbar instead of always going to the "Add-ins" tab.</user></user>
