Strange call from an unknown number Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
I keep receiving calls on my mobile phone from an unknown (hidden) number. When I answer, a voice, either male or female depending on the call, says "please hold, you will be connected to your correspondent... please wait a moment... just a moment longer," and then it hangs up! A friend of mine is experiencing the same calls; not only is it really annoying, but I am also worried about my number being hacked or something like that. Does this ring a bell for you? Thank you.

Hello,  I managed to get the number of those strange calls: XXXXXXXXXX. The apartment, it seems, is from Morocco (212). If you call this number, you get this voicemail...

classic - premium rate number - charge starts as soon as the call is answered. I never answer calls from withheld numbers or those with obviously foreign prefixes.

I got the same phone call but on my landline!
While I don't answer foreign numbers on my mobile, it's hard to do the same with my landline.. All that's left is to check if I've been charged or not...

It's horrible and honestly disturbing! What solutions are there against this? Is it true that we pay for these calls when we are called?  If someone knows anything...

Buy a CECT phone with caller ID and don't answer unknown calls... -- Before asking a question... Did I do the necessary research? If I don't know how to do it... I'll say so!

This night, that damn unknown number called me 10 times! Several times an hour!
It's crazy to see things like this! Can't we file a complaint so that the phone operator does something in advance to block this number??

I have exactly the same issue, the robot that keeps calling me from a private number....

I called Orange and they told me that I needed to file a complaint (as if I have nothing better to do...).

I also have this problem with my line (Bouygues Telecom) and the operator says there’s nothing they can do except offer to change the number (charged at €15).
It's frustrating because all of this amounts to phone spam, and we have no possible recourse.

Hello harassed people! I've been having the same problem since 11 am this morning, and I've already received 7 calls by the time I'm writing this! I managed to note the number: xxxxxxxxxxx
I think I'm going to file a complaint right away as many suggest, especially if it charges my line (even though honestly I don't think that's possible).
I rather believe this is what's called "ping calling" and that the goal of the maneuver is to make the called party think the call has been disconnected. They then call back because curiosity is human nature, and that's when the charges start.
Otherwise, after a brief search by my dear, it could be a computer from the "Société Française du Radio Téléphone" that dials numbers all by itself... I'm not sure I understand the purpose of this computer.

It does the same thing for me, but you need to hang up right away because otherwise you'll be charged for the call.

Hello everyone, this morning at 9:58 I received a call from my own number. After checking with SFR at 1077, I was told that this is obviously not an isolated case; these people who call have a system that allows them to display the caller's own number. My question was also whether they could call using my own number, which apparently is not the case, so we are a bit reassured, and SFR is opening a case to try to eliminate these problems.

But I have a trick, with my Freebox, I can block incoming calls by adding the concerned number to the "blacklist"

Hello everyone,

I also had this problem; it’s actually about telemarketing agencies located abroad most of the time (it’s cheaper and complicates any potential lawsuits....) Basically, an automatic dialing device calls several numbers, the first one to answer gets questioned while the others hear the message you received. And if no one picks up, they just hang up on you without even telling you who was calling or why.

Problem! You picked up! And the machine recorded it, so your number is considered valid and added to a database for future contact....

MY SOLUTION: I tested "the bullshit" for you, let me explain, since the person who calls you doesn’t care about you, why not do the same! The first time I answered, I dragged the survey on for a LOOOOOOONG TIME! (that breaks their profitability) I kept making the person repeat themselves and I answered anything. Like, um, what was the previous question again?.... no, not that one,... oh, well, yes... uh, hang on, I'm not sure,... One piece of advice: share your life story like you're an elderly person; they don’t dare respond and it really annoys them.

They called back once, and I said I was fine with the survey... and as soon as it started, I started singing “La digue du cul” on my way back from Nantes! la digue la digue! ... I must sing badly because they never called back.

I actually think that operators blacklist certain numbers when they see that we’re messing with them. So you know what you have to do, be original and have fun!

I did it more simply with my Freebox; all unknown numbers are not accepted and are automatically redirected to a message explaining that I do not accept hidden numbers. However, I have the same problem with my mobile; I still get this unknown call, and when I answer, there's not a sound! -- Thank you for clicking on "Mark as resolved" if your issue is fixed!

me even stranger, 5 minutes ago a man with a weird voice called me from a private number, when I asked who was on the line, he replied, "we never answer that question" and when I asked why he called he hung up

I have the same thing happening to me: unknown number, telling me they will connect me with my correspondent, then hanging up after one to two minutes...  I'm waiting for a call from abroad, so in doubt, I have to answer even for masked numbers.  This is starting to annoy me!
