Left 4 Dead Server

Hello, I would like to know how to create a local Left 4 Dead server that only I and another PC in the house can use.
I know there is a way to do it via the game console, but the only problem is that I have no idea how to proceed... what do I need to do to create a local server just for us? I look forward to your responses, thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.4

    Hi everyone, I have a solution to play Left 4 Dead on LAN. It works for me between XP and Vista without any problem.
    You just need to make sure that all PCs are connected to the same router (freebox, alice box, neufbox,.....)
    Then
    (sorry for the spelling)
    find the config.cfg and config_default.cfg files (where the game is installed, for me it's D:\Program Files\left 4 dead\left4dead\cfg)
    open them with Notepad and change this line in both:
    bind "'" "toggleconsole"
    to:
    bind "F12" "toggleconsole"
    and save

    download Steam (clubic.fr)
    install it (Left 4 Dead is not recognized on it, but we don't care, it's just that the game needs to see Steam, so we show it)
    log in
    LAUNCH THE GAME one player opens the console F12
    enter one of the maps:

    Quote (Survivor Campaign Air Hole)
    map 4d_airport01_greenhouse
    map 4d_airport02_offices
    map 4d_airport03_garage
    map 4d_airport04_terminal
    map 4d_airport05_runway

    Quote (Survivor Campaign Bloody Harvest)

    X = IP address of the one who starts the game.

      It’s true what you’re saying, players can do the same with Hamachi (Hamachi IP instead of the local IP in 192.168.xxx.xxx)
      or join the game directly via the main menu.

      However, remember to correct it because the command to type is:
      map l4d_xxxx and not map 4d_xxx, it needs to be “l4d”!!!

    Hi, to open the command go to your game installation folder and find your cfg folder (something like c:/program files/left 4 dead/left 4 dead/cfg).

    Then in the files: "config_default.cfg" and "config.cfg" you look for the line "bind '\''" "toggleconsole".
    and replace the '\'' with the key you want, for example for F12 => bind "F12" "toggleconsole".

    Then you just have to launch the game with the .exe and when you are in the menu you press the chosen key.

    There you go, I hope this helps you.

      Hi,

      To create your dedicated server locally, you just need to install the Left4dead dedicated server in the Steam tools. Then fill in the information correctly and launch it; after that, you should normally be able to find the server in the game.

    Salut à toi Laurent, désolé mais c'est un jeu auquel je n'ai jamais joué et je ne sais pas si tu auras beaucoup de réponses en postant ton message ici. Tu devrais créer un autre post si cela n'existe pas déjà.
    Sinon normalement c'est juste un patch à installer que tu trouveras sur Google en tapant World of Warcraft 2.0.3

    Moi je viens de le trouver sur jeuxvideos.com
    Essaie de voir si tu peux le télécharger, sinon cherche sur Google. Une fois téléchargé, un double clic dessus devrait l'installer. Et au cas où tu as mis un crack sur ton jeu (histoire bien sûr de ne pas avoir à mettre le CD à chaque fois), sache qu'il faudra sûrement le remettre car en général les patchs changent le fichier lanceur, alors copie-le quelque part avant de l'installer.

      Yes thank you. And for the non-Steam?!! I have a Steam account with games like CS 1.6, CSS, etc.... and I couldn't buy Left 4 Dead on Steam, so I bought a non-Steam version, but the problem is I can’t play online =(

        Hello, I wanted to know if someone could help me, I can't open the console. I have activated "enable developer console" in the L4D options and added the bind "toggleconsole" in the config file, the problem is that the config.cfg file resets every time I start the game, and consequently, the bind "toggleconsole" goes back to "~" instead of "F12". Does anyone have a solution?

            Hi,

            How do you know it's possible? Where did you see that? There are only 4 characters, unless it's a mode or a custom map, I don't see how you can do such a thing, the maps weren't designed to accommodate that many people..

              Well, it's simple for non-Steam servers. One of my friends showed me a pretty good site (wawa_mania) where you can download Left 4 Dead non-Steam. Then, with a small program, you can turn it into a Steam game. At least, it won't be completely Steam, but you can play without any problems on the servers =)

                    Hamachi works very well, but you just need to start Hamachi before the game so that it recognizes the Hamachi IP.

                      For the plugins, you can check on alliedmod, I didn't find any tutorials, they don't provide them with the download, plus, the plugins were poorly compiled so I had to modify them.
