Solved

Good evening

I reversed the polarity when connecting my external hard drive... it smoked... this leads me to 2 questions:

1) Is it repairable?

If not

2) How can I recover the information at the lowest cost?

Best regards

Hello

I must, out of respect for the community, inform you that the hard drive has been repaired... actually, the little "thing" was just a power diode.

Once replaced, the disk works as before.

Best regards to all.

Hello, I came to the forum because I also have this huge issue....
My internal hard drive has failed, it's a "Maxtor Diamond 8", and every time I keep being told that most people who have this type of hard drive complain because they encounter tons of problems with it. What are my chances of being able to repair it? It was after trying to recover the data that was not recognized by the computer. I had bought the adapter just to make the transfer too....
I’m desperate because I really want to get my data back even if the hard drive can’t be repaired...

Thank you for replying
Sincerely

Take the hard drive out of its case and put it in a working external hard drive enclosure.

It might just be the case that has failed, not the hard drive itself?

;)
