Hello
I have an optical mouse.
Right now, I'm not touching my mouse, but my pointer is moving around on its own on my screen.
I don’t understand what’s happening.
How can I stop this? It's getting ridiculous.
Thank you for your responses.
The brand of my mouse is: THESYS

Hi everyone,

After spending a good fifteen minutes reading this topic, I can tell I'm in deep trouble...
I have a not-so-new Toshiba (=> old =$), with the built-in touchpad, but I use a wired Logitech laser mouse.
So here's the deal: my cursor flies like crazy from one end of the screen to the other, it's horrible. The problem isn't with my mouse; I've tried another one and even none at all, and it's the same (so dust is out...). I'm running an Avast scan: nothing.
Sometimes, when I'm not running any programs, it calms down a bit and only moves slowly. But as soon as I launch something, bam! it's off again...

I've tried unchecking that infamous box in the Control Panel, but it didn't work.

Anyway, this is really getting on my nerves, I need help people!

Thank you very much for all the advice. I disabled it and then reactivated it, and it works again. For those who want to know, I have a touch HP mouse :)

Hello,

miracle solution?
having the same issue with a Logitech wireless mouse and after several unsuccessful checks, I decided to put my wired mouse back into service.
Half an hour later, I tried my wireless mouse again and, miraculously, the problem was solved.

SOLUTION :

Go to "Device Manager," then at the bottom "Mice and other pointing devices," then uninstall the old mice (I had 3 of them). Problem solved. It wasn't the touchpad or the optical mouse.

Several hypotheses!
- Either you've caught a virus or something similar
- Or your mouse is on a fairly uniform surface and then the only advice is a mouse pad!

A mouse pad or a sheet of white paper for more efficiency. :)

Someone is connecting to your machine remotely???

Is it a computer from your office or at home?

Are the movements random or does it look like you're working???

Hello,

Strange... I'm having the same problems. At first, with a wireless mouse. It's annoying to the point that I traded that mouse for a "wired" optical mouse. It was better for a week, and now it's back to square one. The movements are completely random, with a preference for the edges of the screen. It's driving me crazy...

A complete scan from my antivirus (Norton) didn't find anything. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

Michel.

LoL Norton is crap, check this out:

http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_pre.php

It has often saved my life, it will save yours too. Otherwise, there's also this:

http://www.clubic.com/t/downloadall.php?idfiche=12797&titre=Ad-Aware+SE+Personal&langue=Anglais&os=Win+NT%2CWin+98%2CWin+ME%2CWin+2000%2CWin+XP

If the problems persist, use the system restore, your last chance for survival, otherwise you’re good for a complete reinstall of Windows from Microsoft, sry ):()

Hi,

This question about the mouse wandering around on its own has been asked a few times in this forum, and often the answers are of the same kind, and I don't know if the issue has found a solution... it seems to me that it hasn't... I will look into it (and check the other posts on this subject)... but afterwards, we will probably need to do some tests to go further...

Sincerely, Us.

Salut, I have the same issue (wireless optical mouse) and I thought of a JOQUE, it looks a lot like their way of having fun with mice, what do you think? Thanks for keeping us updated, bye.

A joke is a fake virus that has fun moving the mouse, icons, etc. Not dangerous but annoying. Best regards, see you later!

Hello,
I also have the same problem and it's really annoying.
As soon as I touch the mouse, it gets stuck on the edge of the screen and sometimes it freezes and I have to shake it to get it to move.
I reinstalled Windows and it still continues.
No viruses with Norton.
I also noticed that there is a program that is running at 95%, which is making the computer slow down: "SVCHOST.EXE".
Is it a virus?
What do you think?

Thank you

Here is vincelapo (this is addressed to all those who have this problem) look in the control panel on the mouse last tab (well I think) anyway go through the tabs and try to find the status of the mouse clearly check if the mouse is working well

after a somewhat fruitless search I found it’s in the last tab named hardware it says the brand [...] and at the bottom device status: ......... and there you go you will see if the mouse is working well

ps: I’m a 12-year-old kid so my comments might be useless maybe this one is too .... but at least I tried

Hi everyone,
I have a mouse with a wheel and a cord on the SP2 port.
Since I installed the SP2 pack for Windows, the pointer of my mouse randomly drifts away slowly. I took apart my mouse and cleaned it thoroughly. But it didn’t help. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the mouse, but nothing changed. Then I thought to check in the control panel/mouse/pointer options and uncheck the option "pointer precision enhancement" lol and my problems are over. Sometimes the pointer shakes a little bit, but it's annoying at least it stays in place, so that's something. In any case, I’m dying of laughter when I see what "precision" means for Windows engineers.

Catch you later and let me know if it worked for you.

Hi,

Thank you for your POST, which I hope will be helpful to others and highlights a newly identified source of error.

Nonetheless, I have a small question: did the shaking issue really appear just after the Windows XP update with the SP2 pack? Really no signs (even slight) before?

PS: The port is COM2?

See you!
Best regards, Us.

Hi, as far as I'm concerned, these issues with unintentional pointer movements appeared long before SP2 but definitely with XP, about 3 years ago. I prepare tons of posts every year and it started with XP, that's for sure. Still not resolved on my end. I've still unchecked the "improve precision..." option, but no, nothing more. We’ll eventually get it sorted out!

The port is a PS/2 like the keyboard. And I believe there were already some tremors before, but I'm not sure. The problem comes from my girlfriend's PC and since I only use it very rarely, this detail probably seemed unimportant to me.
See you later!

I had the same symptoms on Windows XP Pro SP2 with a wireless optical mouse on a PS/2 port. It happened suddenly, with no warning signs.
After reading all the previous posts, I finally changed the batteries in the mouse, even though they had been changed two weeks ago (wireless isn't very economical ;-o).
Result: EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL

It's curious, I have the same problems. In fact, for me, it's more the wheel that makes the scroll bar move by itself. It's a MX 700 (wireless optical).
When I remove the batteries, the problem stops. This is suspicious.
I tried changing the drivers (I had Microsoft ones because of the great button mapping on Logitech and now the latest Logitech ones).
The base is now 10cm from the mouse (great for a wireless one) and no electrical devices can be involved in the problem... Any ideas? ??

Have you tried clicking on your scroll wheel? In your mouse settings, uncheck the box "enable click lock"; if it's not checked, can you specify your problem?

Hi,

I also have an MX700 mouse (wireless optical) and for some time now (and after installing SP2) the pointer has been moving slowly on its own to the left side of the screen.
I thought it might be interference - changing the position of the receiver, unplugging the fans from my case - nothing seems to work.

I'll try your techniques for flipping the mouse or adjusting the pointer precision, and otherwise I might uninstall SP2 to see...

See you later!

Hello,

Did you understand well... The "mouse flipping" does not solve the problem but only tries to locate it. That is to say, to make sure that it is indeed a signal emitted by the mouse that is the cause...

Best regards, Us.

thank you for your response,
I misspoke.... ;-)
not knowing whether my problem is hardware or software, I think it would at least help me to see that!

Thank you for your reply,

you are right, I misspoke.... ;-)
I think this "flip technique" will help me see if my problem is hardware or software - which is already an improvement :))

See you later!
