Hello,

I just bought a NAD 317 amplifier that I connected to some Cobalt 826 S speakers with a Teac VRDS 10 as the source.

I'm actually not satisfied with the whole setup!!

The sound is beautiful on percussion and sharp hits but messy on R&B-type music, with very aggressive highs that are almost painful at a slightly high volume (a quarter of the power).

(So I'm disappointed since I switched from my Onkyo R1 Class A 2x40 W, which had a beautiful sound with this setup but was a bit weak for the JMLabs).

To clarify, my equipment is in a 40 m² room.

I would therefore like advice on how to optimize this and opinions on the NAD.

Thanks for your responses.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello,
I don’t know if you’ve already received answers to your question. Anyway, I also had a Nad 317, and I was disappointed for the same reasons you describe. I tested it with different speakers, and each time I felt an extreme harshness in the sound. Since then, I acquired a Jungson 2x80W in Class A, and there, the music becomes much more lively and sweeter, despite the significantly higher power. I don’t know the speakers you’re talking about, but I was able to test the Electrocompaniet Prelude (entry-level). It’s around 1500.-, and it’s a very good product that performs wonderfully even with high-efficiency speakers. I have several pairs of Cabasse speakers that range from 93 to 94.5 dB, and it sounded really good on each of them. However, since my budget is more limited, I turned to Jungson and I am really satisfied. In France, near Avignon, you have the importers of the Xindak brand. Check out their website; it’s quite magical to see what can be done for an unbeatable price. I haven’t personally listened, but the reviews say great things about it, and it seems to follow the same philosophy as Jungson.
I hope I was able to shed some light and wish you a good listening experience.
