Bug with OpenOffice Impress

Hello,

Using Impress with major issues... There’s a big bug when inserting transitions, the memory gets maxed out...

I just tested the latest version of OpenOffice 3.0. At the end of the installation, it offers to remove the old version, so ok, I agree. Then I restart the PC, launch Impress, insert the images, then the transitions, and that’s when the troubles start; it takes forever, the mouse is frozen, you have to wait...

I tested it on a second machine (laptop), and when I launch the slideshow... no images show up, while everything was fine with the old version. I uninstalled version 3.0 on this laptop to reinstall the old one, but now I can’t get my images to display in slideshow mode... I just have a blank screen, quick as anything.

What solutions are there to get back to the previous state? ?? ?? ? ...

After verification, it can work in 16 bits:

In the "Tools" menu => "Options" => "Display" => Uncheck the "use hardware acceleration" option.
    And there, it works.

I haven't tried reducing the screen resolution, for me that's out of the question.

Another note: Restart OOo after changing the color depth in Windows.

      Hello everyone,

I confirm that by disabling hardware acceleration, it works; I had the same issue in 3.2.
Probably a problem with managing the overlay.

Great advice! I had this issue: the first slide would start, but when it came time to move to the second, my PC would crash and restart on its own!

      Thank you very much!

    Hello,

I have the same issue as Le_Druide with OOo Impress 3.0.1.
Even when there is no transition, from the first slide, nothing displays in slideshow mode.
Only a white screen is visible with the hourglass in the bottom left.
The task manager shows that, besides RAM usage, the OOo process doesn't require any CPU resources, as if it is just waiting mindlessly.
The problem was the same with version 3.0.0, but it worked very well with OOo 2.4.
However, I don't want to revert to the previous version, so I'm looking for a solution.
I haven't seen a similar case anywhere else but here.
Another hint: If I save in ppt format with OOo and open it with PowerPoint, it works.
But regardless of the format, it's impossible to start the presentation with OOo.

My config: Portable PIII 500MHz, 320Mo RAM, Video 1024*768 16bits.

    Thank you in advance.

If it can reassure you, I’ll revisit the subject to add that I tested it on a more powerful PC than yours, with an AMD 900 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 64MB video card; the result was a real disaster.

Well, that barely reassures me; I had no doubt about the power of my setup. I've never had power issues for office tasks, even with my very small video card (3D Rage Pro LT 4MB).
This seems more like a bug, but I'm still surprised that we're the only ones experiencing it...
It makes you wonder if anyone really uses Impress 3.0.....
I have a more powerful desktop PC; I could also try that, at least.

In fact, when I launch the presentation, if I have 2 slides, for example, I click twice in front of a white screen (with hourglass) and I reach the black end screen of the presentation "Click to finish......"
And it reacts very quickly, not like it's working hard or anything.

If others have the same problem, I'm interested!

Just to clarify: I'm running on winXP SP2.

    Well, problem solved!!!

The only parameter to change is the color depth: 16 bits: it bugs. You need at least 24 bits.
It's crap, but that's how it is.
So after switching to 24 or 32 bits, no more issues, it works perfectly.

Le_Druide, you might want to try again. You were on 16 bits, right?

Regarding resources: If I launch Impress and create a blank presentation, the soffice.bin process uses 47MB of RAM. So that's fine.

    Hello,
We have 3 computers at home, on 2 I had installed the new version open 3.1; on the 3rd I had left 3.0; it turns out that version 3.0 works relatively well with slideshows while version 3.1 refuses to insert images, doesn’t want to close the slideshow, etc... Maybe by going back to version 3.0 you will have fewer issues.

I'm bringing this up in case someone comes by...

It's a disaster with Impress from OpenOffice 3.0, it takes up 70,000 KB in processes, it's at the top of my processes list.

Why continue with OpenOffice when LibreOffice is a hundred times better?
Personally, I abandoned OpenOffice and I don’t regret it, so many advantages.

    Resolved!

I cleaned the registry of all the keys corresponding to OpenOffice and everything lingering in C:\Documents and Settings\my profile\Application Data\OpenOffice.org3.

Then I installed version 2.3 and it’s perfect, everything has returned to normal.

In conclusion, I'm sticking with version 2.3, which is much more efficient; it shows 40,376KB in the processes whereas version 3.0 showed 70,000KB.

I'll let you judge for yourselves.
