Hello,
I downloaded a video editing software and when I try to open it, a message appears saying "this application could not start because HHCTRL.OCX is missing. Reinstalling this application may fix this problem." So I downloaded and installed it again but nothing changes. Now I don't know what to do. Do you have a solution to suggest? Thank you in advance
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Good news.
While searching through various forums on the subject, I found the solution that I pass on to you.

1: Go to this site and download the famous "hhctrl.ocx": https://www.ocxme.com/

2: Copy the file to: # Win XP - C:\Windows\System32
# 95/98/Me - C:\Windows\System
# Win NT / 2000 - C:\WINNT\System32

3: Then register it: Go to Start------>Run------> regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx

Then if you have uninstalled the Realtek software, you can reinstall it. There is no more boot error, and my application that refused to install works like before.

Happy downloading.

Alas, the link is dead now, but the link to the post https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-8446074-probleme-avec-hhctrl-ocx#5 still works.

Hello,

Here is the solution that helped me install hhctrl.ocx safely:
To download it, go to this very reliable site at the time of my writing:
http://www.olinformatique.com/DLL-FILES/FILES/hhctrl.ocx.php (Winrar format)

All you need to do is extract the file (for WIN XP)
C:\WINDOWS\system32 (or the drive letter where your system is installed)

Restart your computer and you won't see the annoying message "this application failed to start because hhctrl.ocx is missing; reinstalling this application may fix this problem" anymore.

Beware! Messages like those from jaguarxk120 are rampant on forums but do not solve the problem... They only direct you to sites that I will let you discover yourself if you wish.

You are lucky to come across this message; it took me a good two hours to find it without falling for any traps...

Happy New Year to all!

Hello.
I have exactly the same problem. The message to see, advised by Aquarelle dating back to 2007, has nothing to do with the current issue, I think, except for the error message.
If you have done your updates, the update (KB935448) - French does not exist in the details, as it is included in SP1, SP2, or SP3, which would mean that Microsoft has made the same mistake as before in SP3, because I have this error after reinstalling my system and updating to SP3, which I don't believe. (Although????).
I have this problem on Windows startup; if I delete the triggering Realtek program, I no longer get the boot error, but if I launch the application "WinAvi Video Converter," a message tells me that the application cannot start because it cannot find that infamous hhctrl.ocx.
If anyone has any ideas on this, I'm all ears.
Thank you very much.
