Is igfxtray.exe a trojan or not? Solved

Good evening, I just read on this site:
The presence of the igfxtray.exe (igfxtray) process may indicate the presence of the Trojan Troj/PAdmin-A.
However, I currently have this program running in my processes, and I also read on the lilutilities site:

that this program is harmless. So I will abstain while waiting for more details, thank you for your help.

This process, installed by the software provided with an Intel motherboard, resides in the Windows notification area (to the right of the taskbar).

It appears as an icon on which you can right-click for quick access to various advanced configuration settings for the integrated graphics controller on the motherboard.

If you remove this process, you may experience display issues.

I've already done several scans with Trend Micro and The Cleaner, and I haven't found anything, but I don't know what this program does.
Moreover, it is also in the startup list, so I'm starting to worry....

Well, in the link there's this:
Security Risk (Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware): No
so it's not a virus, trojan, etc. Plus, if the scans found nothing, honestly, I don't think it's a problem. But if anyone else has proof that it's a trojan, I'd like to know (seriously, I'm curious).

Well, I’d say that if it ended up there on its own, there’s a reason (wrong manipulation,...) so I’d quickly check where it is before getting rid of it,...

Hello,
there's no harm in posting with a three-year delay... the topic is still open.
And even on VISTA, we still find igfxtray. Which Windows Defender refuses to launch at startup without permission.
Since my machine runs fine without it, I’ll leave it waiting until I understand exactly what it's for.

So to get things going again, if I understood correctly, igfxtray.exe and other ctfmon.exe are not viruses, nor malware, but we can safely remove them from the startup? Is that right?

My conclusion:
I scanned my computer with antivirus, CCleaner, and Spybot: nothing.
Harmless, I keep it, but it’s not necessary at startup.
So I disabled it at startup with CCleaner.

Incredible. You know what? In 2013, your answers can still be useful. I have to say, it's true that igfxtray is annoying. I would say that we can remove it if we have an integrated video card along with an external card and we are using the latter more than the former.

Well, 12 years after the question was first asked, I think we can conclude that this program will still be here in 3 years, and maybe even in 10, without necessarily being dangerous!

By the way, just so you know, I bought an Asus with Windows 10 (we're far from XP, huh!) recently, and the first software I installed was Avast; after a scan, a virus was found... I hadn't done anything on it yet. I didn't note the name (and the PC wasn't for me, so no traces) but it doesn't sound good for the future lol.
