Liveplug HD and devolo 200 Mbps Solved

Question

Hello, I would like to know if there is a real difference between the liveplug hd and the devolo 200 mbits/s powerline adapter because I went to Orange and they told me that the liveplug hd would not work with internet usage and that it was only for TV.  So my question is the following: does the liveplug HD work with a PC and not just with the TV decoder?  Thank you for your response. Best regards, Live-ordina13

Hello, I know it seems difficult, but it's actually as simple as pie. First, we will call LP1.1 the first HD+ liveplug of the first pack. We will call LP1.2 the second HD+ liveplug of the first pack. We will call LP2.1 the first HD+ liveplug of your second pack. We will call LP2.2 the second HD+ liveplug of the second pack. -Download the devolo dLAN Cockpit software at this address: http://www.devolo.fr/... -Install it -Plug one of your HD+ liveplugs (LP1.1) into a socket no more than two meters away from your Livebox in port number 2. -Put the second HD+ liveplug (LP1.2) from the same pack into another socket and connect it to your computer. -Start dLAN Cockpit. You will see a drawing showing you two types of white boxes. -Click on the add icon at the bottom right of the screen and enter the security ID of the third HD+ liveplug (LP2.1) which you will find at the back of this HD+ liveplug. -Click OK -Click on the add icon at the bottom right of the screen and enter the security ID of your fourth HD+ liveplug (LP2.2) -Click OK And there you go, you just need to connect any computer to any HD+ liveplug using an internet cable. You have internet throughout the house. There you go, I hope I helped and good luck!  PS: For those using it for their decoder, after these steps, you just have to connect your decoder(s) to any HD+ liveplug instead of your computer as mentioned earlier.

Hello live-ordina13,  Basically, the Liveplug HD is identical to a Devolo dLAN200 with the internal encryption disabled. This lack of encryption allows for better throughput for the TV stream from the Livebox (a large consumer of bandwidth).  If you want to use the Liveplug HD to connect a PC, it is possible, but please note that:  - if you leave the encryption disabled, the powerline network becomes susceptible to unwanted connections. In other words, your neighbors could connect to it (if your electrical meter allows the signal to pass through; it seems that recent meters do not let the powerline signal out of your home. So this needs to be verified).  - if you enable the encryption on your Liveplugs HD (via the utility provided by Devolo), be aware that this is not reversible. If the encryption is reactivated and you use the Liveplugs HD for TV again, you may experience serious degradation of service (especially since the electrical installation is outdated, encryption consumes bandwidth, thereby reducing the usable speed available).  In principle, the Liveplug HD can be used with a computer (PC, Mac, regardless of the operating system installed), but they are not optimized for it. The same goes for Freeplugs (the equivalent of Liveplugs HD at Free): they can be used to connect a computer to the ADSL box, but they are primarily designed to transmit the TV stream. Hello live-ordina13,  As you are going to use other powerline adapters, here are some tips and personal experience to avoid unpleasant surprises both technically and financially.  First of all, the cost. There are adapters with 85Mbps (theoretical maximum) and adapters with 200Mbps (theoretical maximum as well). In your case, to connect 1 computer to your Livebox, you will need a pair of powerline adapters. This represents about a 50 euro difference between a pack of 2 85Mbps powerline adapters and a pack of 2 200Mbps powerline adapters.  The choice of the speed of the adapters will depend on your internet usage and the quality of your electrical installation. For my PC, I use Devolo dLAN200 AVEasy adapters (those with the automatic pairing button), as they work quickly even though the electrical current in my room is quite disturbed. That’s the only reason I bought them, as I don’t need such a high speed. I previously tried Léa 85Mbps adapters which, although of high quality, couldn’t transmit the signal well. Some days it worked, others it didn’t... The 200Mbps adapters are also to be recommended for intensive internet usage.  Otherwise, if your electrical installation is decent and you have standard internet usage, 85Mbps adapters are more than sufficient. I connected my father’s computer to my Freebox via the earlier mentioned Léa 85Mbps adapters, this time successfully, as the quality of the current is better for him.  Finally, it is important to use adapters that comply with the same standard as your HD Liveplugs, which use the Homeplug AV standard. If you use 200Mbps adapters, they must also be Homeplug AV. If you use 85Mbps adapters, they must be Homeplug 1.0 Turbo. This way, they can coexist within the same electrical installation.  In my case, my powerline network is made up of 2 Léa 85Mbps adapters (Homeplug 1.0 Turbo) that coexist with my 2 Devolo 200Mbps adapters (Homeplug AV). Each pair does not "see" the other, but also does not interfere with it. They are independent of one another.  Indeed, there is another standard of powerline adapters, namely the DS2 standard. In your situation, I advise against trying to mix them. Furthermore, the Homeplug standard is much more widespread among the general public (retailers like ISPs supply Homeplug powerline adapters). Hello, in the post to add a second powerline network, so 2 pairs with the Cockpit software, it says to add the ID of the new powerline transmitter and the ID of the new powerline receiver.
