My keyboard is making stars

euh ... hello! It happened to me once except that instead of stars there were R’s everywhere but it went away by itself. I think it was a virus afterwards ... well, goodbye and if I can help you, you’re welcome! XD

I'm pretty much the same, the PC automatically adds random asterisks while typing. I've checked the settings for the keyboard, mouse, etc., but nothing seems to indicate an issue on that side.
This happens in all typing fields, whether it's in Outlook or on IE, etc.
I can't find what this could be coming from, if you could give me some ideas, I'm out of options.
I should mention that this is a new machine in a secure environment, very little risk that it could be a virus.
