pop and smtp for ......@live.fr Solved/Closed

Question

Hello everyone
I have a problem between Windows Live Mail and my email. In Servers, I have tried entering several names in the incoming mail (POP) and outgoing mail (SMTP) fields like pop.live.fr or smtp.live.fr. While searching online, I found pop3hot.com or localhost, and for the SMTP, I entered localhost but it still doesn't work. Is there a solution? If so, can you help me?

Hello everyone,

for those who are having trouble setting up Thunderbird with the POP server for Hotmail, Live...

Incoming server configuration POP3:
- Server name: pop3.live.com
- Port: 995
- Username: xxxxxxxx@hotmail.fr (here your account name)
- Security setting: select SSL
-> DO NOT check "Use secure authentication"

Outgoing server configuration SMTP:
- Server name: smtp.live.com
- Port 25
- In security and authentication, check "Use a username and password" then in username, enter your full email address (xxxxxxxxxx@hotmail.fr).
-> When sending a message via this account, your email password will be requested.
- In "Use a secure connection", select SSL (note; when you select SSL, the default port changes to 465, change it back to 25).

PS: In your Hotmail account settings, remember to change your SMTP server by selecting that of smtp.live.com because by default, it will take that of your ISP (that said, it also works with your ISP's...).

Tested and functional on Thunderbird 2.0.0.19

Hi, to retrieve your messages from live.fr or hotmail etc..
You can use Windows Live Mail. You hardly have to do anything, just fill in the necessary information but there is no need to configure the POP and SMTP.

Hello,

To configure the POP3 for your live.fr email, you need the “Hotmail Plus” version, as it is not yet possible with the “free” version of your live.fr email.

Otherwise, the settings are as follows:
POP: pop3.live.com (port 995)
SMTP: smtp.live.com (port 25)

Make sure to check the box that says the outgoing server requires authentication.

Correction  Oops, I made a small mistake, for the SMTP server configuration, you need to select TLS and not SSL!!! So, no need to change the port again...  Sorry for the mistake.

So for those who are unable to send emails via Hotmail's SMTP, here is a solution (verified only on Thunderbird).

The server address is smtp.live.com
You must use your full email address as the username
Port 587 can be used with a secure TLS connection

Good luck to those for whom this method doesn't work, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you ^^.

If despite these settings you still cannot send your emails, just remember this:
it's when you're facing the wall that you see the bricks better, and your computer is no exception.

My live.fr emails are arriving in my Windows Live inbox, but I can't send emails with this address either.
I've checked with your information and it still doesn't work.

I checked "my server requires authentication" in servers. I set everything to SSL but cannot find TLS. Can someone help me?

Hello,

Under Outlook 2007 (although the features are the same in 2003), the SMTP + TLS configuration is done as follows:
- "Tools" menu
- "Account Settings" menu
- Double click on the live account to modify
- "More Settings" button
- "Outgoing Server" tab
- Check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
- Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
- "Advanced Options" tab
- Outgoing Server (SMTP): 587 (instead of 25)
- Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS (to be selected from the dropdown list)

With this configuration, it works with my "@live.fr"

For Outlook Express 6, it's a bit different indeed (the configuration for Windows Mail must be the same):
- Menu "Tools"
- Menu "Accounts..."
- "Mail" tab
- Select your email account
- "Properties" button
- "Servers" tab
- "Settings" button next to "My outgoing server requires authentication"
- Select "Log on using"
- Account name: xxxxxxxxxx@live.fr
- Password: xxxxxxxxxx
- Check "Log on using secure password authentication"

Replace the "xxxxxxxxxx" with your credentials.

For SMTP sending issues, under Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail, the option is found in the Servers tab (in the account properties). You just need to check "My server requires authentication." -> select "Use same settings as my incoming mail." In the Advanced tab, the SSL option must be checked, and it works with port 25.

Good evening,  Even with the options offered by Kraor, it still doesn’t work. I think that Hotmail's incoming servers are rejecting emails coming from Outlook Express 6.  It's quite outrageous in this µsoft world!!!  I might end up changing my SMTP server as mentioned above, just like I did for another email account (which I won’t name...)  But I am open to the normal solution if it exists.  Thank you.

For your information, in the outgoing server settings on Outlook 2007, I was unable to send messages until the day I checked "this server requires a secure connection," selected "connection type": "TLS"  Finally, replace "25" with "587" for the outgoing server (SMTP)   I hope you understood me, logically if you followed previously... this message is just a detail.
