Hello,
As the title suggests, I'm looking for a way to switch my Mass Effect French version to English. I've played a bit of the original version, and even though the translation quality is good compared to what a lot of games offer (often terrible), I still prefer the original voices.
So I'm trying to find out if anyone knows how to do this (I had downloaded an original version while waiting for the French version, in case that helps; my French version is an original, though).

Good evening, I found this forum because I just acquired Mass Effect 1 on Xbox 360, and I would like to play the game in ENGLISH. My console is set to this language, and all my games so far have been in the original version, except for this one!!
I can't imagine playing it in French; everything is so much more believable in the original version (I started the series with the 2nd one) and Shepard's voice actor is particularly much more charismatic.
Is it possible? Thank you ^^

Hi, Ninja
I just had the same thought; that's why I came across this forum and your request. But unfortunately, I don't think it's possible :)
Have a good game

Well, actually I think so because the last time during the speech at the moment of the Normandy's takeover, where Shepard usually speaks in French without the intercom effect, I got the Russian voice with the right effect.
I think I'm going to keep digging through the game's installation directory to see if I can find a lang variable or something like that.

I found it: as I suspected, it's a multilingual version on the DVDs but you have to install it in the language you want the game in.
On the screen that launches with the autorun, there are several flags; you need to select the Canadian one for English (well, yes, only in Quebec do they speak French) and install the game.
And there you go, all in English with the right effects ;)

Interesting detail: by putting it in English (I'm playing with Vista Pro N 32-bit) I no longer have a single bug, all the sound effects are present and the characters are infinitely more expressive, especially Liara on the Normandy (and her voice doesn't sound pathetic or childish in English).
Basically, I have the distinct impression that the French port was a bit poorly done.

It's exactly the impression it gives. I played with both versions (French and English) and frankly, there's no comparison. Between the cut conversations and the scenes that drag on when no one is talking anymore, it's really amateur work. No, that's not true, I've seen amateur work that's way better than this.
I hope that Bioware or EA, whichever is responsible for the French port, will put in more effort for the second installment.

Ugh, I'll just put it in English directly, I just hope it will be released on PC at the same time as on 360.
Otherwise, I hadn't noticed the cut-off conversations at first, but now that you mention it, it's true that I've found a few.
It's not amateur work either; for that, play Oblivion, one of the worst voice acting I've heard.

If possible, an explanation here on how to do it:

Registration must be done, but it takes 2 seconds.
Best regards,

To put it simply, to switch the game from French to English, here's what to do:
"Take the game's installation directory, then go to Biogame/Config. Next, take Default Engine.
In this document, edit the line [Engine.Engine]. Replace the line: Language=FR with Language=EN.
Save."
And here is Mass Effect all in English.
Have fun with this great game!
