Hello,
I have a Garmin GPSMAP 176C. The screen lighting hardly works anymore. Is it possible to repair the lighting at a reasonable cost? The Garmin vendor is asking me for CAD 250 for the repair. At this price, I can easily buy a new GPS. However, the one I have works well except for the lighting. Moreover, I have several accessories (mount, wiring, marine map, road map, etc.). An electronics technician told me that the repair requires special tools for desoldering and then resoldering, not to mention the parts. I also contacted Garmin, which is very stingy with comments on how to repair except to send them the device with advance payment... of course! Has anyone ever experienced this problem and, if so, what is the solution?
Best regards,
Lucian
