Hello,

Today I tried to install Age of Empires III on my new DELL laptop (HOME VISTA). A little hiccup, during the installation (with CD 1), here’s what happens:

http://www.hebergement-images.com/members/1204844157_Bug%20AOE%20III.JPG

If I click cancel, I then get this:

http://www.hebergement-images.com/members/1204844239_Bug%20AOE%20III%20b.JPG

On my Toshiba, which had Vista, I had no problems installing. I remembered that Vista was updated on my Toshiba, which I did with my DELL, but it made no difference. Should I install the "urgent" drivers offered by the DELL website? Or is there a solution?

I was suggested to copy the contents of the CD into a folder and use that for the installation, but an archive cannot be copied from the CD which is preventing the installation. I then get this: http://www.hebergement-images.com/members/1204844606_Bug%20AOE%20III%20c.JPG

What do you suggest to help me? Thank you in advance for your responses!
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 2.0.0.12

    Hey guys,

Well, I've got the solution for AOE 3. Let's say regarding the bugs at the end of installation (sound bar; art bar)

Actually, you need to download AOE 3 demo (on telechager.com or clubic), install it, and after installing it, reinstall or install the complete version again, "BUT" check the custom installation, choose the installation path: "C:\program files/microsoft games/age of empire III trial/.
Basically, install the complete version in the trial version, knowing that the trial version has the missing files.
So that's it, I hope I've been clear enough. Well, see you later.

Well, what you need to do, and this works for me having already had this kind of problem several times, is to start the installation normally until it crashes. At that moment, do not stop the installation, do not exit it, go back to your desktop (alt + tab / ctrl + esc / Windows + D to return to the desktop), go to "This PC" etc. to display the contents of the folder where the game installs. Select all the files and folders (ctrl + A), copy them, and put them into another folder outside the game’s folder (for example in a folder "AOE3" in Microsoft Games etc.). Normally one of the files or folders will not want to copy/paste because the installer is working on it (the problematic file), if it's a file go to the next part of my explanation (*), otherwise, if it's a folder that doesn't want to paste: in the folder where the game is installing, double-click on the folder that doesn't want to install, then select all the files and folders you can and paste them into your "AOE3" folder (that you previously created) keeping their place, meaning respecting their path, for example: if it's the "art" folder that doesn't want to paste, inside "art" there is a "xxx" folder and the files art1, 2 and 3 .bar, copy the "xxx" folder into your "backup" folder "AOE3" along with the other files that are already installed.
      * In short, create an identical image of your installation folder while excluding the buggy file.
Then stop the installation, this should delete the installation folder, by default "Age of Empires III", hence the creation of the "AOE3" image, you have thus recovered a maximum of clean files for your game.

After that, to recover the files you are missing, you have two solutions; in any case, I recommend downloading a demo of the game to know where certain files go. Once your demo is downloaded, you can recover the missing files by comparing your image folder to that of the demo.

Otherwise, but this method is complicated. Explore the AOE3 CD (This PC, right-click on the CD, explore) then go to the file containing the files to install (like a .rar or .zip but another extension) there you have all the files of the game contained on this CD in a jumble. I will illustrate the method with the problem I had, I was only missing the maps (Amazon, Texas, etc.), so CD 3, I search for the file names corresponding to the maps I am missing, let's say Caribbean, so I find the files "caribbean.ddt" and "caribbean_map.ddt", from the demo folder, I know that these files go into art/ui/random_map/caribbean (if needed replace caribbean with another map name)(this is an example, not all files to extract go into "art/..."). Once these two files are found, double click on one to open it in a notepad, well it's gibberish, don't worry about it, select all and copy the content of the notepad, then close it. Go back to your image folder then art/ui/random_map/caribbean create a notepad file, paste inside (here, the content of caribbean.ddt) then save and rename the notepad as caribbean.ddt, do the same for caribbean_map.ddt, and you will have the Caribbean map available in the game.

This method is quite complex and I cannot guarantee that it works.

Once you have recovered all your files, if you are lucky, aoe3.exe has been installed and you can play (this surprised me but it works), either you are unlucky and you will have to download something that starts with "cra" and ends with "ck" for that I'll let you figure it out.

      Hi
I have the same problem with the installation of CD 3 of AOE3. A window pops up saying: "program files\microsoft games\age of empires 3\art\art1.bar."
I had previously installed AOE3 without any issues on another PC, so please HELP.

Install one of the aoe3 demos
    extract the corrupted file
    uninstall the demo
    install aoe3
after the message mentioned insert the file into the specified directory and click on restart.

    no guarantee!!!

Thank you, I'll give it a try. Otherwise, I don't know how I managed it, but I succeeded in copying AoE3 and Warchiefs from one computer to another (by going directly to the program files), but I couldn't transfer my metropolises; Warchief keeps asking me for my CD key (and it's legal :) ). Also, I couldn't get Asian Dynasties to transfer because even though I uninstalled and reinstalled it, I "requested" graphics that were too high for the computer, and now I don't have any image at all, so it's impossible to play :S.
If you think you can solve any of my three problems, don't hesitate!

I'm having the same problem but with art2.bar; if someone could send it to me or upload it for download, please. If you want a file, I can send you one except for art2.bar. Thank you for getting back to me, I'm feeling desperate u_u.

    up !

Don't you have a solution? My antivirus: Antivir, which Vista can't update, detected viruses in the DELL and Windows folders, and I either quarantined them or let Antivir do what it was supposed to do by default
    is that related?

Yeah, you need to format your computer because you probably uninstalled the game incorrectly, which can sometimes cause bugs. That's why it's missing.

    Same problem with sound.bar.
It seems that I need to download it or try installing it with another CD, but I don't know anyone who has it on CD either, so if you have a free download link for the game, please share it with me...
