I originally posted this message in the hardware section but just realized there's a networking section :/ so I'm reposting it here, sorry for the mess :p
Hello,
I just acquired a Storex NAS-351 external HDD. I've followed the initial instructions to use it, but after plugging it in, even though it appears on the network, I can't use it (I can access it but no writing - folder creation, transfers - is possible). I thought perhaps the problem was with my router not being configured correctly, but the manual is in English and I'm not very familiar with it, so I'm not sure if I need to create a virtual server or modify DHCP options....
I browsed the forum a bit and saw that the hard drive needed to be "NATed," but I don't really understand how that works.
My problem: to summarize to be clear, I have a Storex NAS-351 external hard drive, a D-Link 524 router, Windows Vista Integral, and I would just like to be able to access the external hard drive (via ftp I presume) from my two laptops (mine and my girlfriend's).
Thank you very much for the attention you give me :D

No one to help me?
I tried to fiddle with my router and accidentally unplugged the disk cable from the router :x
Now when I reconnect the HDD, it doesn't show up in the network devices, so I'm even more in trouble...
Thanks to anyone who might be able to help :p-

Thank you very much for your response,
unfortunately I have already tried several times to do this without any change, my storex appears well on the network but the "public" folder which should be there (as indicated in the manual if I'm not mistaken) is not there. Only the "config" and "printer" folders are present, and I cannot create folders or transfer anything.
I am on Vista, are you also on Vista?
Maybe the problem could come from my intranet security settings? Or my firewall? Or even my router? -

Hello,
I have lost my login and password to manage my nas351.
One solution: the reset.
But I do not know the consequences for my files: will they be lost, overwritten, vaporized, or does the reset only affect the base configuration? And what about the partitions (I have created 3)?
Thank you in advance if you can help me. -

Yes, I am using Vista and I haven't found the solution despite the advice in the CD manual, which is rather complicated. So my question is how to copy files onto this disk even as an admin? For my part, I access it through the network via Vista Explorer; it appears with its icon and as network infrastructure. The document in question is here: http://www.storex.fr/storex/data/notices/Manuel_NAS-351_258.zip
Thank you for your answers
Best regards-
Well, apparently the problem might come from Windows Vista (I’m also on Vista). I’ve also tried to configure the network using the proposed tutorials, but I have my own router (LYNKSYS DI-524), so the interfaces are not necessarily the same. I will try to contact the Storex hotline tomorrow to resolve the issue if it’s not resolved by then.
In the meantime, since I’m a novice in networking, I will try to explain to you what I’ve attempted/understood.
It’s the same for me; it shows up in the network as infrastructure.
I tried to configure my router by enabling the “virtual FTP server” option (accessible via the IP of my router in the virtual server tab) that unlocks TCP ports 21 (apparently the ports for FTP). I added the IP address of the NAS, but it doesn’t seem to resolve the issue. I updated the firmware of the NAS-351, but that didn’t change anything either. I also tried to access the NAS with the WAN IP address of the router (visible in status), but that doesn’t work either. I’ll keep tinkering and keep you updated!

Hello everyone, this morning I solved the access problem to the NAS 351. It is essential to change the network workgroup name, create a container on the disk as stated in the manual, and it will appear in the network neighborhood like another PC named "storex" with its printer (if applicable) and the public folder accessible by the PCs in the common workgroup in read-only mode, except for the administrator. However, I'm not sure if it works via FTP and locally. In my case, it's connected to a Livebox, and I've added the disk to the LAN network, opening the appropriate TCP and UDP ports to "check" and do a test from the outside if necessary.

A site to see: http://www.bichofeo.com/4.htm
Have a nice day-
In fact, for me, I called the hotline this morning (which is great by the way). They took remote control of my workstation and after verification, the technician confirmed a technical defect on my storex :(
So, I'm out of luck but hey, just so you know, the storex hotline service is the best I have ever seen for a simple peripheral product! :p
