Hello,

On my mobile phone, I received a call from the number that displays as +412xxxxxxxx (i.e., +412 followed by 8 other digits).

Can anyone tell me if this is from a mobile or a landline?
Can you tell me if it could be from France or abroad?
And if it is from abroad: from which country?

It is a landline phone number in Geneva, Switzerland. For example: +41 22 854 53 78, with 41 being the Switzerland code, 22 the Geneva canton code for landlines, and the following seven digits corresponding to the subscriber number.

Sorry, but I rushed a bit to respond to you; it's a landline number from Switzerland, but not necessarily from Geneva... to answer you, it would require one more digit, 21 being Lausanne, 22 being Geneva, 23 and 26 being Fribourg, 24 being Vaud or Valais, 27 being Valais, etc.
For more precision, do a search with the full number on https://tel.search.ch/
