Wi-Fi connection problem Eee PC Solved

Question

Hello,
I just received my long-awaited ASUS Eee PC and I'm facing a problem: I'm unable to connect to a wireless network with an Inventel box (AOL box).
I can detect the box correctly.
I have tried several different configurations, with or without MAC filtering, in WEP, WPA, even without encryption, and nothing works; each time it remains on "connecting."
I have only tested it on one wireless network, I will check on a second one to see if the issue is the same.
In the meantime, does anyone have any additional ideas for my problem?

I found the solution.
I went to network instead of wireless network, then I went to create and I created a new network with a channel option set to a channel other than auto (personally, I set it to 7) and then copied and pasted the WEP key that I had on Open Office, not forgetting to press the association button on the box. And I connected directly to the network. I hope it works for you too.

I just did the copy-paste trick and it finally works, I think it was just a typing error in the WEP key. On my Livebox, there are two lit diodes and one that is blinking (the one for the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth association). I think if yours isn’t the one that’s blinking, you’re in trouble. ^^ Press the button on the back of your box to make it blink. There you go, good luck!   PS: I'm writing this post with my Eee PC.

I have exactly the same problem as SL62, I called Carrefour (they didn't even know they had this device for sale!!!!!!! at customer service!!!!!!!!!!!! not bad!!!!), then I called Orange and everything works fine on my end with the live box, and then I called Asus.......everyone is passing the buck, it's impossible to get assistance and find a solution. I think theee PC must be restricted for Orange and probably other operators.......I hope to get a response, it has gone back in its box for return to Carrefour.

FINALLY MY LIVE BOX WORKS WITH MY EEEPC!!!!!!!!!! So, it's really simple, just do a test with the numbers and letters (it doesn't work like a normal computer), always put the key number 1 and it connects right away, in about 1 minute, and it works!!!!!! Note down your numbers that are under your live box. The EEEPC is really amazing, it opens in 25 seconds and there's no need to set up a printer, it works with 2 of mine... For my tests with numbers and letters, I went on work and there you go!!

Go to the "Internet" menu tab and select the icon "Network". In the "Network Connections" window you select the "Create" button.

In the next window you select the "Local Area Network - Wireless" option.

In the next window you select "Next".

In the next window you select "Dynamic IP address (DHCP)". Please consult your network administrator if your network uses static IP addresses.

In the next window select "Browse Wireless Networks".

In the next window you have to select "Enable wireless" in order to select the network. If you don't see your network click on the "Refresh" button to scan for networks. Click on the network of your choice and select the "Choose" button.

In the next window you select the "Next" button.

In the next window you select the "Next" button.

In the next window you can set the encryption settings. Leave it unselected if there is no encryption on the network.

Please consult your internet provider / network administrator for the encryption settings if there is encryption on the network.

Hello,  I followed all the instructions to connect my EEE PC to my Inventel Livebox via Wi-Fi. I have my WEP key that I note in the Open Office on my EEE PC, I copy it (ctrl + c). The status remains eternally "in progress."  I tried both types of encryption (WEP and WPA) as well as the different key indexes (1 to 4).  The key is correct after several verifications.  In the admin (192.168.1.1) of my PC (Windows XP 2), my Livebox shows that the status of the simplified Wi-Fi association is activated, and the same goes for the wireless network. Even the list of associated devices displays the physical address of my EEE PC.  I see no way out for now, which is why, after a week of attempts, I’m asking for your help.  Thank you in advance :)

Exactly little thing!!  The connection is no longer stuck on "in progress" but displays "activated"!! However, on the EEE PC, it's impossible to access a website, for Google for example, the page is blank and the message "Connecting to www.google.fr..." stays displayed forever in the taskbar, the page loading never completes. I had the same connection problem. As mentioned before, I copied the WEP key into Open Office (it's true that one doesn't expect the Caps Lock to have no effect on numbers!!!) Then, I pressed the button on my Lifebox. Then I confirmed my WEP key. After that, I closed the page. I went to Networks, selected my network, and clicked reconnect. Ten seconds later, the connection was active. There you go, hope this helps some of you. @+

Hello!! I hope I can help you because I have the same problem... my setup: Windows SP2 + Inventel Livebox!  Like all of us, this little Asus made me dream (lol), but disappointment, when I wanted to connect it to my Inventel Livebox!! I just managed (finally) to connect!! Change your channel number in your Inventel configuration. Go to "security" + "801.11G"; a rectangle will appear with the channel number currently configured on your Livebox. Assuming channel 10 or 11 is selected, change it to channel 7!! And that's it!! I just connected without any problems!! For my part, I have an unsecured connection, meaning I didn't intentionally enter a WEP or WAP key. I searched all day yesterday on different forums to find solutions. It was worth it because it was thanks to various clues from my research that I finally found it!! Hoping I brought you happiness in return.... (lol). Best regards. D

Hello!! I think I have found the answer!! For my part, after quite a bit of research, I thought it could be a question of the channel selected on the Livebox Inventel. That’s where you need to look. Open your Inventel interface, then go to "security," then to "802.11," click on the latter, and a small rectangle will appear showing you the channel number selected (usually 10 or 11). You will choose channel "7" instead of the one you have, and normally, that should do the trick!! For my part, I didn't intentionally choose WEP or WPA key encryption, so I think that simplifies things quite a bit. I hope I have been able to contribute to a future connection with your Eeepc (which, let's be honest, when it works, is a great toy!!). Best regards. CLW.

I managed to connect my Asus Eee PC to the Freebox via wifi.   I struggled for an hour or two before doing as below and it works.   Freebox wifi configuration in the management interface of free.fr:  I choose WEP key.  I type a 5-character key and click the generate button.  I NOTE THE ENCODED VERSION of the key in hexadecimal.  Send.  Don't forget to restart the Freebox.   On the Eee PC  I open the wireless network assistant.  I double-click on my Freebox  and when it asks for my WEP key I TYPE THE HEXADECIMAL KEY that I noted earlier.  Button ok.  That's it and it worked for me.   It seems that my problem came from the key. At first, I tried with a plain key, called ASCII.  I don't know where the problem comes from, whether it's from the Free interface or from that of Asus (maybe there's a bug when it tries to encode the plain key into a hexadecimal key) but it seems that directly entering the hexadecimal key bypasses the problem...   Now I'm watching France24 on the Eee PC, sprawled on the couch... it's cool.

Pour connect to a router or a Wi-Fi hotspot, you must first turn off your PC. When turning it back on, press F2 at the same time. Your BIOS will open; go to Advanced, then Configuration. Set all the settings to Enabled, and you should no longer have connection problems. Hi,  well, there's really a serious problem with the wifi on the eeepc. This weekend, I couldn't connect to the hotel wifi network where I was staying. Usual procedure: searching for the network, requesting connection, entering the password: and I get stuck on "connection pending," while my friend with a regular ASUS running Windows connects without any problem through the same process. And then, good luck asking the hotel manager to change the channel....  Another problem that's also really annoying... When it does work, for example at my friend's place on his livebox, I have to re-enter the WEP code every time I reconnect, while on a normal PC, there’s no such issue.  Dom

The problem I have is solely with the Sagem Livebox. I connect to other Wi-Fi networks. It’s the WEP key that’s causing the issue; it asks for the Livebox number, whether it's 1, 2, 3, or 4!! Hi everyone  I'm writing because I finally found the solution to my "pending" connection problem. First of all, retrieve personal documents from the PC since it involves resetting the system to factory settings; otherwise, the operation is quick and safe;  here is the solution: -Turn on the PC and once on the desktop, type: ctrl+alt+t -in the command window type: sudo synaptic -in the new window at the top right, use the arrow to scroll down and find the line: atheros-swan-modules -right-click on this line and select: completely remove -click apply (above). Once deleted, -go back to the desktop and you will see that the system can no longer find wireless networks. This is normal because you just deleted the Wi-Fi driver from the system. Close all windows. -restart the PC and press f9 during startup -select the last line to reset the PC to default settings (warning, this will erase all your private documents) type yes to confirm. It takes 30 seconds; -finally, go back to the desktop; reconfigure your network with your WEP key, etc... and it should work!  It seems that a Wi-Fi driver update can happen automatically when you are online. Asus has indicated that this update can cause conflicts during connections. Resetting the system to default allows you to revert to the old driver that works perfectly well; That's it; we'll see if it holds up, and avoid any updates if possible. Hello I just logged in today with the same problems and I found the solution by connecting my eeepc to my Neuf box with an Ethernet cable and miracle, the connection was established I then removed the cable and since then, no more issues

Hi! Since you set up your Livebox on channel 7, are you able to connect to MSN?? (because I'm not at all, I get an error message saying that I didn't enter the correct password or username, whereas it works perfectly on other computers at friends' places)  Anyway, thanks for the tip, the eeepc is life when there's internet on it... But if you could please answer the question...

Hello, I managed to fix the Wi-Fi connection issue. You need to press F2, you'll see an icon  click on it to enable Wi-Fi.

My radical solution for the new EEE PC under XP:  Restore a previous restore point!  Of course, on a PC that was only a week old, I didn't lose much data, but my connection fixed itself.
