Energy Saver - Dell Monitor

Hello,
I have a Dell flat screen that I connected to my laptop. Everything was working well until I had to disconnect my second screen.

When I plug it back into the laptop, I can't turn it on; all that shows is Analog input - Entering power save mode.

I tried to fix the problem by clicking on the mouse button in Properties - Settings. Then, by selecting Extend Windows desktop to this monitor, my background image appeared but I can't see my icons, although I can see them on my laptop. Everything is properly connected. If I deselect "Extend Windows desktop...", it goes back to Entering power save mode!

Have you had the same problem? I'm going crazy trying to solve this issue! :-(

Thank you

Hello,

My name is Youssef, and I am part of Dell's technical support. I will try to guide you to resolve your issue :)

From what I understand, you have a Dell flat screen that works fine with your laptop, and it's another screen that is giving you trouble. What is the brand and model of the second screen (the one that is having the problem)?

The fact that you have a display on the second screen by changing the display properties proves that neither the screen nor the laptop is at fault (the laptop's graphics card, to be precise), and it's apparently just a driver issue! We should start by changing the display resolution to see what happens, and you may need to update this driver. (Control Panel > Display > Settings tab and drag the pointer on "Screen resolution" to change the resolution).

The fact that you can see the background on the second screen but not the icons is a normal phenomenon on an extended desktop, as the name suggests, the second screen serves as an extension of the first one. Therefore, to see the icons, just drag and drop them, and you will see them move to the second screen (you can also verify this by moving the cursor; you will see it appear on the second screen when it reaches the edge of the first one).

If you could perhaps provide me with the model of your laptop, I will guide you to download the correct driver (it would be perfect if it were a Dell :) ). Otherwise, I remain available for any further information, hoping that this message will be useful to you.
