Help, my Dell Inspiron won't turn on.

Question

Hello everyone, my Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop is not working anymore. After pressing the power button, the fan usually turns on, the optical drive works too, but the screen remains black, nothing. The hard drive doesn't spin. It seems to me that all the hardware does not have power except for the fan, the optical drive, and the network card. I have tried removing the hard drive, the battery, the memory, the DVD, but the situation remains the same. Is there anyone who can help me? Thank you very much!

Hello, Thank you for your reply, Here is my procedure: After pressing the power button, the fans spin, I can open and close the DVD drive, then insert a disc, the drive spins, so I know at least the drive has power. If I plug a network cable into another computer, the network card lights up, so I know the network card is also receiving power. The battery is well charged and can be charged when I plug in the AC adapter. All of that seems normal. But the problem is the hard drive is not spinning (I don’t hear it spinning, the light is not on), the screen remains black, nothing, and the keyboard does not work. Do you perhaps know what the problem might be? Thank you very much!

Hello, Your procedure is not clear: I suppose you have plugged your laptop into a power source: 1) Your screen is black, okay: see if you can connect an external monitor to it (graphics port at the back) 2) How did you check that your optical drive and network card were working: did you try them on another laptop, any lights? 3) The memory must not be removed!! otherwise, you'll never get anything! (essential for the machine) 4) If the monitor you connected shows the usual displays: it's your screen and unless you change it with a professional or get another laptop, there's no other solution. 5) If there is nothing: try changing the memory, the processor: if one of the tests works, you know the solution Otherwise: more serious the motherboard.

Hello,  Personally, I have a Dell Latitude laptop and what you describe seems similar to the symptoms of my PC, except that it happens to me two times out of three. Honestly, I don't think it's your hard drive, because otherwise the PC would have thrown you a message like "no system disk" or "boot failure." I tried to figure out what could be causing the problem for mine, but I couldn't find anything, so I only see two possibilities for a black screen: either it's the RAM or it's the graphics card. Given that the latter is integrated into the motherboard, I hope it's the RAM, but it's still quite expensive, like 136 euros for 64 MB of SDRAM. So before anything, try turning your PC on and off until you get an image, and for safety, remove the hard drive; it will still work without it. Good luck!

Always with a Dell Inspiron 5150, I manage to start it up, the battery and power lights come on, the hard drive spins, and I can even hear XP starting up.  But the catch is, the screen remains desperately black... nothing to do.  If anyone has an idea...

It looks like a driver issue with your graphics card....  However, if your screen is black right from the moment you turn on the PC, it's something else.  Try to see if it's a problem with the cable between your screen and your CPU. To do this, move your screen while the PC is running.

Indeed, I have already encountered a similar problem and the RAM was to blame.  Upon starting the PC, an electrical impulse is sent to all the components. If an error code is returned by one of the components, the PC does not start or runs in vain.

Hello,   there are converters to connect 2.5 HDDs to a PC as if you were connecting them externally via the USB port:  External USB 2.0 IDE adapter for around 20 euros depending on the model.    Or this less expensive option, but you have to open the PC and connect it in place of a peripheral if all the IDE ports are used:  IDE 44-pin / IDE 40-pin adapter with Molex recovery for about 8 euros.

Hello,  A week ago I caught a virus, but I didn't fix the issue, no time? While using my computer, there were some lines on the screen and it got blurry. So I turned off the PC and when I tried to turn it back on, the screen was black although everything else seemed to work like the hard drive, the drive, and the mouse. So I connected it to an external monitor. The image is blurry, Dell appears, but it's blurry, starting in normal mode or safe mode and Windows XP all that is blurry and then nothing. Given that I believe the virus was virulent (I didn't even have access to system restore, my desktop had been modified and I could no longer change the desktop wallpaper either), is this due to the virus or the graphics card or the motherboard? Hello  I recommend that you disassemble it (remove the blue plate above the keyboard where the power buttons are by lifting on the right side, then remove the 4 screws, and unplug the connector)  Then, "tap" it upright on the table to get rid of all the leftover food you may have consumed lately, the cigarette ashes, the hair, the dust......... Give it a blast with compressed air to clean it well (definitely no water)  If it still doesn’t work, let me know, I should have a keyboard (even a screen, CD player, DVD burner, caddy...)

Hello,  I have a Dell Inspiron 2650, and it has a starting issue. When I press the button, it starts normally except that the screen doesn't turn on. If you hold it up to the light, you can see that it has started when you see the XP startup screen. I have to restart it at least 10-15 times before the screen turns on...  Another thing is that when the screen finally turns on, I can restart it without any problem because the screen stays on. The issue mainly comes back after it has been off for a while... Dell Inspiron 8200 One day it suddenly shuts down; I can't turn it back on: the LEDs light up for about 1 second and then everything goes off again. Disassembly, inspection (looking for something that smells bad or is loose) and no results (I even have a screw left over that I don't know where to put!!!). But persistence is key! Actually, I press the button until the hard drive starts; it sometimes takes several (eternal) minutes, but it starts; and this has been the case for over two years!!! Fortunately, I don't use this laptop very often... Good luck!
