Read or convert mts files Solved

Question

Hello,
I bought a Panasonic camcorder that records videos in .mts format and it also mentions avchd or something like that. I filmed a video and transferred it to my PC, but the problem is that the video is in .mts format. I can't play or convert it.
Please help me.

Well, I have pretty much the same problem. I went to download mtsconverter. You download the software and that's it. It requires 28.8 MB.  M2TS Converter download page

You need to replace the file extension "MTS" with the extension "Avi" or "Mpg" or "Mov" of your choice!! After that, you can watch your video using editing software like Adobe Premiere. The classic VLC and WMediaPlayer can play it but lag too much.

hi,
for reading and editing, Nero works well.
for the Panasonic, the HD Writer software (provided with it) allows you to transfer your videos
to the hard drive and it changes the extension to m2ts.
the AVCHD is a Blu-ray type format, so generally HD, based on the H264 codec and mostly resulting in .mp4 videos once edited or encoded.
Premiere Pro does not support this format (Vegas Pro 8 does).

Good evening, use the AVS Video Converter software; it works perfectly to convert MTS files into whatever you want, and then with Virtual Dub or another program, you can modify them as you wish.
I have a Sony HDR CX7 camcorder, and it works flawlessly.

The only solution I know is to change the PC. That's what I will have to do too if I want to maintain the quality of my videos. You can't move a heavy load with a two-horsepower engine. You need a PC that matches the camcorder.
For now, I'm converting my TS files with freeAVCHD converter to be able to edit them with my studio 10. But it's a major hassle because the files are too large. There's also a big problem when creating the new file; the resolution is altered by the studio, which slightly distorts the image. It still remains relatively acceptable, but we go from HD to a vulgar mpeg. Solution: invest in new hardware and software.

Download K-Lite codec pack, the "media player classic" included plays the .mts format without any issues.

I have a Panasonic Z38 camera that records videos in .mts format, I can view them on the
PC via "media player", I haven't tried burning them and seeing the result on the TV.

I use "Super". It's free and recognizes a maximum of file formats, including MTS, and converts them to whatever you want. A+

I bought a JVC GZ HD 320BE HD camcorder and I have a recent Vaio PC, but I find that the videos are not great quality, plus they are in mts format....
I can't edit them or publish them online...

MTS files are disguised .mpeg files; renaming them with this extension should allow them to be played by any player and converter. However, it may be necessary to reconfigure the deinterlacing mode (generally, you should choose the "bob" filter). But your biggest issue may be the power of your machine; for Vista or Seven, if the performance index is below 4.5, your machine may struggle (stuttering, pixelation, player crashing...). Since .mts files are in high resolution, a recent graphics card is needed, or at least a very powerful central processor. The .mts extension allows the manufacturer's products to recognize metadata placed in the file, such as "recording date/cropping/editing done from the camera...".

I confirm one of the earlier comments, the free VLC player reads MTS files very well. For me, with 3 GB of RAM, no issues, videos are very smooth.
