Hello,

I would like to reset my computer: Dell Dimension 5100 (I received it without the reinstallation CD)
with a system:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
- Version 2002
- Service Pack 2
How do I do it?

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.9

However, I’m setting aside this information for reconfiguring to "factory settings" that will be very useful for others:
- DELL: F10
- ACER: ALT + F10

slt do you have a recovery partition? if so, at startup (black screen) it should prompt you to press F10 or F11 for system recovery  normally you will have the factory system ra plus

Hi,Definitely do not format any partitions!!! You won't have anything left afterwards. You should have a recovery partition (check in Disk Management if you can see it) or, as Suoerbanis indicated, you need to press a key combination when starting up your PC to launch a restore procedure. For ACER, for example, it's ALT+F10.

If you had to add any since you got your PC, yes, you can set them aside; otherwise, they are original, so included in your PC's restoration. Check out this link, it might be helpful to you!

Hello everyone. I have a Dell PC that won't boot up anymore...

- Win XP Pro
- SP2

When I boot, everything goes normally until a "Black Screen" appears and then a page tells me that
the computer could not start normally due to a recently installed software or a new
device. After that, I have the choice of

- Safe Mode
- Safe Mode with Networking
- Safe Mode with Command Prompt

- Start with Last Known Good Configuration
- Start Windows Normally

The problem is that in both Safe Modes, the computer restarts. With the Command Prompt,
it restarts too!! And in the other two modes, Windows starts normally but just before (normally) reaching the user selection screen, Black Screen and it restarts.

I don't have a problem resetting because I have a 'Back Up' from a month ago.

Indeed, I may have had a worm.  A worm is a type of malware that at a certain point infiltrates the system and prevents it from either booting, logging out of a session (very rare...) or exiting the screensaver.   I may have found a way to boot it: I boot it from CD with Ubuntu 9.10 desktop (https://ubuntu.com/  Ubuntu is a division of Linux. It works, but I would need a Linux antivirus capable of detecting Windows viruses since I can access the Windows XP partition from the other operating system.   So for suggestions of antivirus (free on the internet) EVEN TRIALS, please reply to me.   Thank you in advance,   @echo off

If YOU have an Acer computer running Windows XP, Vista XP Pro,... At startup, press Alt+F10 at the right moment, then click on "Restore factory default settings," enter the FIRST password you set on the computer; if you haven't set one, type 000000! and wait 5 minutes (normally) AND it's done.

PS: Before doing this, back up all IMPORTANT things on a DVD (if you have a lot to back up)!!!!
