Why does gran turismo 4 not work on

Same problem, in my opinion it comes from the CD that "bugs" after a certain amount of time of use or non-use (more than a year). I wanted to play this game again (on my PS2, still the same) after several attempts, black screen, then I cleaned it with water and soap, and it restarted (that was 15 days ago) and this weekend it doesn't want to know anything anymore, cleaned the console, then the CD, etc, etc... + nothing at all, the other games WRC, PES (except online, for that one there would be a lot to say!!!!!) etc... work fine on the console... could there be a scam cakepart????? I will brush it with soap again to make it "shine" it's a shame this game is really great, I bought GT4 when it came out with my first video game console... at 53 years old... I’m going to buy a new one (18€ max, it's a gift now) I'll let you know if it’s the console or the CD... see you later.

Well for my part, GT4 refused to start

After a good cleaning of the lens and the CD and a diagnostic check, everything works again

For the diagnostic:

1 turn on the Play without a CD
2 in the menu press triangle (to go to the "version" menu)
3 select "console" and confirm with triangle
4 when in the console menu, confirm with X (cross) and choose "enable"
5 insert your GT4 CD, close the lid, and wait 30 minutes
6 restart your console with the game

For me, it worked after 2 tries

Now my game starts normally whenever I want, like new

I have the same problem as well. I don't have a PS3, I have a PS2 that works with all the other games, except Gran Turismo 4. The PS2 tells me it cannot read the disc, even though I bought it new and played it once six months ago. Since then, it has been impossible to read the game!!!! I cleaned the disc, I cleaned the lens of the PS2, but nothing works!

Any ideas?

you can play gt4 on the SCPH-30004 ps2 console. I removed the memory cards, tried it twice and it worked, then I put the memory cards back and had no problems.

I have version 70004 and it doesn't work either.

same problem for me too, it was working very well and suddenly nothing.
I brought it back to where I bought it, they fixed it but it didn't change anything ???

You need to check the booklet that came with the PS2, then make the necessary adjustments to play; I saw it in the game booklet.

Me too, for 2 months now it's impossible to play GT4 even though the Play has undergone no changes and the disc is positioned with great care. After dismantling my Play to take a closer look, the disc doesn't spin; it moves back and forth like DJs with their turntables, as if it doesn't know what to do. The same goes for the lens; however, as soon as I put in another disc, it spins wonderfully.

I suspect there's a limitation in usage to encourage certain people to spend more.

Salut, j'ai le même problème que toi. J'ai cherché plusieurs forums qui t'expliqueront leur problème, mais la meilleure façon que j'ai trouvée sur un forum, c'est de le nettoyer au savon. J'ai vu ça, la personne disait qu'il remarchait. Reste à voir...

PS2 games are not compatible with the PS3.

I have the same problem as you, and in my opinion, it comes from the fact that GT4 does not accept to work on "swapped" consoles because the reading lens does not position itself in the same place as originally. Another idea is that there might be a line of code on the disk that prevents proper reading when the console is swapped. But that would mean that only GT4 has this issue, since all other games, even more recent ones (e.g. PES 2008), work perfectly.

I can only see that, so there is no possibility of playing with GT4, and even changing the game wouldn't change anything. It's such a pity.
