How does the UHD decoder-recorder actually work

Hello
I bought a Sony smart TV
I am 74 years old and I am a little stressed by all the things I don’t know
I will have a decoder, Orange UHD, a decoder that can record, because I also like to record and watch movies
In theory it is very simple, but I would like to know, really how does it work, and do I need to have the Orange app on my TV
There are so many things on the Internet that I don’t know who to trust anymore
As far as I’m concerned, I just want to watch movies and have access to replay
And record certain movies, with the Orange recording option that I will pay every month
On the other hand, until now, I recorded movies using an external hard drive that I plugged into my old TV, CAN I do the same with a smart TV, i.e. plug in a hard drive to record and read my movies
Thank you for your help

Hello
Orange recordings are in the cloud.
You need to subscribe at:

Hello, To add, the UHD decoder is supposed to be connected to the Livebox; the Orange app, which can also connect to it via Wi‑Fi, has nothing to do with it. At SFR, it’s one or the other: decoder TV or functional app; with Orange I don’t know, but Free’s (excluding paid bouquets) works with any operator; that makes for redundancy (except if the Livebox fails and you use a spare 4G USB key). I would be very surprised if the TV could play films from an external USB drive; it requires the TV to have a menu for this, a media player, and appropriate codecs. Mine, an USB drive, is connected to a TNT set‑top box with recording; that box is connected to the antenna and to the TV via HDMI: if that’s what you have, nothing prevents you from continuing, but you’ll only be able to keep recording films through that path, not via Orange which locks its recordings to the Cloud.

Hello,
What is the model of your new Sony connected TV? (See label on the back)
The recorder, which is provided on subscription with (or for) the Orange UHD decoder, is nothing more than an external hard drive that connects to the decoder via a USB port.
There is a strong chance that your own external hard drive could work there as well.
