Hello,

I hope I'm on the right forum, if not, please let me know...

I have a Linn Intek amplifier that turns on but produces no sound, how can I test if it's the potentiometer or the sound card or ?

Thank you for your responses and advice

    Hello,

Normally, is there a "Click" a few moments after turning it on, which is not happening?

One or more fuses? To be checked with a multimeter?

    Do you have a multimeter?

To check if there is DC on the speaker terminals (speakers disconnected)

More than a few mV would not be a good sign.

    I will take a look,

yes I have a multimeter (I need to check the manual...)

I will open the amplifier and see where the fuse(s) is/are

    The fuses are good

The DC measurement at 200m across the left speaker terminals is 12, and on the right it’s 94, but am I using the multimeter correctly?!

Thanks for the document, but I still have mine; the amplifier hasn’t been used as a preamp, I believe I bought it new in 1993 and it works every day, well until recently...

At 200mV the DC Offset is out of the ordinary, which should ideally be at 0V. It is normal for it to fluctuate a bit, a few tens of mV DC maximum, but not that much.

So it may have a protection mode that has been triggered and requires adjustment or repair.

Can the DC Offset or the bias current (BIAS) be adjusted on this amp? I believe the BIAS is regulated by an Emitter Resistor, but what about the DC Offset?

I'm not a specialist; I'm learning on the job...

Unless asking Linn themselves, there is little information on this equipment on the Internet.

The best option would be to have it checked by a repair technician.

    Hello,

Being much less skilled than you, I don't really understand what you're talking about (bias, DC offset...) so I will follow your advice and contact a repairman, especially since a friend just pointed one out to me that's not too far away (about thirty kilometers).

Thank you very much for your responsiveness and your advice.

    Best regards

    Have a wonderful day
