No more automatic translation in FR/Cast impossible chrome

Hello everyone ????,
I'm throwing a bottle into the sea, I'm encountering a rather strange issue with Chrome on my Mac. Despite several tests and checks, I can no longer use certain functions that work perfectly on my old Windows PC and on my iPhone. I would like to hear your opinions before I end up resetting the Mac completely. As a novice, I explored some options with the help of an AI, which made the summary of my problem below.


???? [Problem] No automatic translation in French and casting impossible on Chrome (Mac)

???? Context

  • Recent Mac (up-to-date macOS)

  • Usual use: Cast from Chrome to Bbox Miami to display the Mac on the TV

  • Video playback with automatic subtitles (Live Captions) on Chrome

  • Google account synced between Mac, old PC (Windows), and iPhone

⚠️ Problem

Recently:

  • Cast impossible → the error message directs to the Mac system settings to allow local network access, but Chrome is already authorized

  • Automatic subtitles OK, but no more automatic translation in French

  • Both functions work perfectly on the PC and iPhone, with the same Google account

  • On the Mac, they sometimes reappear a few seconds after disabling sync, then disappear again, same after reinstalling Chrome

???? Tests already performed

  1. Checked the network → same Wi-Fi, ping to the Bbox OK

  2. Deleted and reinstalled Chrome → no change

  3. Tested with Chrome Canary:

    • Automatic subtitles OK

    • Cast impossible

  4. Created a new Chrome profile without sync → still the same issues

  5. Checked: firewall, macOS permissions, extensions, media settings → everything is correct (after digging everywhere I'm no longer sure)

  6. Tested on Safari → same symptoms (no automatic translation, no cast)

  7. Disable/enable sync → temporary effect (sometimes it works again for a few seconds)

  8. Deleted the Default folder in the Chrome profile → no lasting effect

???? Proposed hypotheses

  • Corrupted synced settings via Google

  • Incompatibility between Chrome and macOS regarding multimedia management

  • System issue with macOS (audio, network, or local permissions)

  • Damaged system files

❓ Main questions

  1. Has anyone ever encountered this problem of impossible casting and disappearance of automatic translation in French on Mac (when everything works on other devices)?

  2. Could a Chrome setting, a macOS permission, or a system setting block these features?

  3. Is there a way to properly reset the corrupted Chrome/macOS settings without having to completely reinstall the Mac?
