Hello,

I repaired an old tower! When I use my VGA cable to connect my screen to my PC, the screen says "not detected".... I used an HDMI cable to connect my tower to my TV; the screen displays on my TV.. I conclude that the PC is working.. I bought a new VGA cord with HDMI adapter and connected it from the screen to my tower: "same result as the VGA cable, screen not detected".... I tested several screens and even tested with my professional screen, so the problem is not with the screen.... Thank you very much for your help because I am really lost!

Hello,

If your screen is not detected by your PC, first check the cables and connection ports. Then, update the graphics drivers and try another port or cable. Also, use the keyboard shortcut Windows + P to switch between display modes.

What year is your PC from?

Hello,

The cables and connection ports, drivers are the same as when I installed this tower using my TV as a monitor... and it works... the only issue, which I don't understand, is that it doesn't work with a standard screen as I mentioned in my initial message; yet the screen is fine since it is my professional screen... as for the year of the PC, I don't know, it's an old tower with a recycled hard drive! But it works on the TV... I'm really at a loss.

Hello,

While waiting for responses from the hardware specialists (or other fields).

Check that the choice of the graphics card properly corresponds to the VGA output (some cards have an integrated graphics card, different from a card in a slot, assigned to HDMI. So you must select the right card for VGA.

As for the converter (and not adapter, passive), you must be sure that it is in the right direction (VGA input/HDMI output) as both types exist.

The aforementioned specialists will correct or contradict me.

Hello,

thank you for taking the time to help me! I didn't understand everything! Let me clarify: when I install and connect my tower to my TV with my HDMI cable, the desktop screen of the PC appears, so there's no problem... When I use a VGA cable (I have no choice, my desktop monitor has a VGA input) with an HDMI adapter to connect it to my PC, nothing appears on the screen, "PC not detected."

Hello,

when I use a VGA cable (I have no choice, my desktop monitor has a VGA input) with an HDMI adapter to connect it to my PC, nothing appears on the screen, "PC not detected"

I would suggest checking that your converter (which you call an adapter) is properly set from HDMI input to VGA output as there are different devices for each direction. In fact, I mistakenly indicated the other direction, having misread your message. Please disregard my post no. 2.

Also note that in the direction from VGA (PC) to HDMI (screen) you will not have sound and the image quality will at best be equivalent to what you had before.
