Screen not recognized by my laptop.

Little evening issue, good evening!

I recently got an old monitor from the office, a HP EliteDisplay E231, with the goal of extending my laptop screen (Acer Aspire A315 21) because it's really convenient.
Here are the video connections for the monitor: VGA, Display Port; and for the laptop: HDMI.

I bought an HDMI-DP cable on Amazon to complete my project... but the monitor is not recognized :/
Here are the steps I took:
- Select the "Display Port" source on the monitor
- Project my screen: Duplicate / Extend / ...
- In the advanced display settings on my laptop, only my laptop screen is recognized (screenshot)

Nothing to do, the monitor shows "Check Video Cable," and eventually goes into sleep mode.

Do you see a solution to my problem?

Thank you in advance and have a good evening!

Hi, if I understood correctly, you need an HDMI to VGA converter and not just a simple cable.

    Thank you for your response,

Are you saying that my PC does not support DP? Do you know why?
Can I be sure that a VGA-HDMI cable will solve my problem?

You can't read, I'm not talking about cables but about a converter, it's mandatory between two different sources. I don't give brands or other references, it's common enough that a simple search with all the highlighted words should lead you to your favorite search bar.
