Hello, I want to power my Asus PRIME GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card, I need an 8-pin PCI-E cable but why does my 6+2 cable have a pin missing on one side, can I still use it?

Hello,

Test the 6+2 cable to see if the card powers on.

If nothing happens, you will need an 8-pin PCI-E cable.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

Photos of the equipment would be welcome so that we can see if they are very different, allowing us to respond more easily and clearly. Thank you in advance.

Hello

You have a high-end power supply, it has at least 4 compatible PCI-Express connectors, you need to refer to the description provided by MSI to connect them, or possibly on the MSI website.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback, so I powered it on and it worked well; I'm sharing the information that clarified things for me.

  • The 8-pin PCI-E connectors for graphics cards are always organized as 3 wires for 12 V and 5 grounds (GND).

  • Some cable manufacturers do not install all the metal pins in the connector, especially for the grounds, because electrically, it's not necessary if the other wires can handle the current.

  • The “hole” you see is probably a vacant ground position, and it is perfectly normal on many official cables.

  • As long as it's really a dedicated PCI-E cable coming from your power supply (and not an extension cable or a SATA/Molex adapter), you can use it without any problem.

⚠️ However, absolutely check :

  1. That the cable is coming directly from the power supply (not a dubious adapter).

  2. That it’s a PCI-E connector and not an EPS CPU (they look similar, but the keying is different).

  3. That your power supply has the necessary wattage for an RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB (at least 550-600 W with a good 12 V rail).

Hi,

Great reasoning.

It's very good that it works this way too.

Thank you for your feedback and have a nice day.
