Synology NAS backup to cloud

Hello,

I want to acquire a Synology NAS.
To this end, I want to securely address the risk of losing data from my PC, even if my house catches fire or is flooded.

Therefore, I would like to create an automatic backup from my PC to the Synology NAS and then from the Synology NAS to a cloud (such as Proton Drive, for example). Is this possible, and if so, how?

Thank you for your response.

Hello Alicia_lft

Anything is possible!!

There are plenty of free or paid software options to "automate" backing up your data to an external drive or a NAS... Even Synology offers one called DiskStation Manager, although some features are paid.
Personally, I've been using SyncBackFree (no ads or specific messages) for over 10 years without any issues.

As for backing up to the cloud, plan for "big," because if your Synology offers 2TB (and that's a minimum), you'll also need a cloud solution with 2TB (Proton is €15/month for 1TB...), so make sure to do your math.
Again, Synology has its own solution!!

Ideally, you should place your NAS away from your workstations, in another room if possible, well hidden, to avoid the (physical) theft of all your data; there are not just fires to worry about!!

See you later

Hello.

I'm okay with SyncBackFree (the paid SE version) for transfers from the PC to the Syno.

From the Syno to the cloud, I use the cloud Sync package to Leviia, a French cloud service.

However, unless Syno changes its mind, my next NAS won't be a Syno.

They've decided to require hard drives that are either Syno-branded or on a limited chosen list. For me, that's unacceptable!
