Hello,
I caught the Photo 018.exe virus with my portable drive.
Is it possible to delete it both from the drive and from the PC (Windows 11), knowing that my drive always opens when connecting to the PC (I have an NVME SSD)?
I ran a scan using FRST but since cjoin wouldn't take my files, I went through pastebin:
- FRST report: https://pastebin.com/AYm6kvdm (Password: hsk69xxqTn)
- Additional report: https://pastebin.com/dY5A4yT1 (Password: vsVcSEtzC3)
I tried to learn more about the virus, but I couldn't find what its targets are: did it take my passwords, documents, etc. or is it just harmless (which I doubt)?
Thanks in advance!

Hello!

The "Photo 18.exe" virus is a type of malware known as a computer worm. It typically spreads through removable drives (USB sticks, external hard drives...) by copying its executable to all the devices it encounters.
To remove it, the first step is to not open it or click on it. Then, you can use up-to-date antivirus software to scan your PC and USB stick. Some antivirus programs offer specific options to disinfect removable media.
Regarding its targets, this virus generally serves to allow other malware to infect your machine; its goal is not to steal specific information like passwords, but it's not harmless either. It can significantly slow down your computer, modify or delete files, or even make your system unstable or unusable.
It is therefore important to remove it quickly and update your antivirus after eliminating the virus to ensure it hasn't left a strain that could reproduce it. Finally, remember to regularly back up your important data on a non-directly connected medium (cloud, externally connected hard drive...), as this will allow you to recover data if any malware deletes or corrupts them.

Hello, strangely no. I just deleted the file, and it hasn't caused me any more issues than that. I checked the logs and found nothing, and when I plugged in a blank USB drive, I didn't see Photo 18, so I assume I'm safe on my machine at least. Thanks!
