Good evening,

I have a problem when I scan a board of pieces for a game; those on a sky blue background have color bands.

While the other colors are fine, there was also a card with no issues, only on this sky blue background. I don't understand; if someone could share their opinion?

Thank you.

Scanner: Epson Stylus SX 215

Application: HP Scan and Capture https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9WZDNCRFHWL0?hl=fr-FR&gl=FR

Windows 11

Windows / Chrome 131.0.0.0

Hello,

While waiting for responses from other participants, I would like to make a hypothesis:

More than bands, this appears to me as moiré patterns (undulations) similar to those produced by a camera lens.

Is this related to the quality of the optical sensor?

I would try, if possible, with another printer/scanner to see what the situation is.

Furthermore, in the field of digital devices, we talk about blue lasers. Perhaps they are more sensitive to these interferences in the colorimetric spectrum. (colored fringes, diffraction).

Finally, we must take into account the definition: if you have the opportunity to take a photo of the same scene, with natural lighting (sun, even rare at the moment), you will be able to compare and check if it is not a resolution problem (maximum for the scanner?).

Some recent mobiles go up to 6 or 8 GB and the defects are evident as soon as we reduce the size.

The specialists will confirm or complete my statements.

Hello,

Aside from the photos themselves, all the scans are more or less upset with such color, or more precisely what we think it is.

If we need a certain quality, scanned white paper backgrounds regularly come out blue.

The scanner is from a neighboring series to mine and just as ancient, Epson Scan no longer works on Windows 11 forcing the use of a workaround (I also use HP Scan).

The issue may then be, I'm not at home to test, that Epson Scan could offer color correction options for scanning that may not be available in HP Scan which is quite basic or, put another way, that it would be worth testing with another compatible application if one can find one.

Or to install Windows 10 + Epson Scan in a real dual boot provided that the PC drivers are compatible (it won't work in a virtual machine), it's still quite heavy.

Thank you for sharing your opinion related to this: "If we need a certain quality, the scanned white paper backgrounds often come out blue." I scanned a blank page and it is not completely white.

I cleaned the glass but not the inside.

Do you think my scanner might be damaged or is there an issue?

No, I rarely have the problem; I mostly scan printed materials where this doesn't matter much, but as far as I remember, the issue has always existed.

In the example, the paper is never completely white, but the question is related to scanning, which obediently behaves; it's not really a flaw. You need to be able to adjust the scanning settings in the menu (brightness, contrast, color...) to mitigate the rendering of the concerned color.

Alright, I adjusted the brightness and the white page is now completely white.

However, this does not solve the issue with the light blue background, which is a specific problem...

But my scanner has nothing wrong with it; I preferred to have confirmation and I thank you again for your help :)
