EXTERNAL CD PLAYER FOR PC ON HI-FI SYSTEM?

Hello. I have a Marantz M-CR611 CD Receiver. The CD player is broken and I need to have it replaced. The repair cost is €220. An external HI-FI CD player to connect to my Marantz would cost me even more. So, I was thinking of a cheaper external CD player for PC that I could connect to my Marantz. What concerns me is that the connectors on these PC CD players are often USB. I do have a USB port on the back of my Marantz (for connecting certain smartphones), but for the AUDIO IN connection, there are two jack inputs. Do you think a CD player for PC could work? Or do you have any other ideas, please? Thank you.

Hello,
I don't think that the USB PC reader is a path to follow. Rather, it would be a portable CD player with a headphone output that you would connect to the audio in jack. Something like: https://www.amazon.fr/Rechargeable-Personnelle-Gueray-Protection-Anti-Chocs/dp/B08J85RCM9/
The problem in any case is that you need to control, start, and select the CD playback from this device, it cannot be done from the remote control of the system.
A different solution, considering your amplifier seems to have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, would be to play the CD from a PC and stream it to the system over the network or wirelessly.

Hello Jee Pee
Thank you for your response. The lack of a connection with the remote control is not an issue for me since the CD still needs to be placed in the device. The CD player will also be placed on the Marantz. What I would prefer is to have a continuous power supply via a transformer rather than just using batteries. So I will direct my research in that direction. If you have any leads, that would be nice. Thanks again and have a great Sunday. Best regards. JL R

If this is indeed your amplifier: https://www.son-video.com/article/amplis-connectes/marantz/m-cr611-noir-et-blanc
The audio in is not a jack, but RCA, and you can find a jack to RCA cable for connecting the portable CD player.
We could see if a DVD player with the RCA cable would work? This one has a remote control: https://www.amazon.fr/DESOBRY-Lecteur-Portable-Compact-t%C3%A9l%C3%A9commande/dp/B0CBTFZLXG/
But I would also note the Ethernet input for connection to the local network, like Wi-Fi, allowing network access to the amplifier. That's what I use for my hi-fi system for playlists from my phone or PC.

You can also find CD players with optical output for connection to an amplifier that also has an optical input. But it's better to look elsewhere than this site: https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005002973706710.html

Yes, this Marantz device is great except that it is completely black. For Internet radio, it is connected to my router via cable because I was regularly experiencing cutouts with Wi-Fi. I must say that this is a field I don't really know much about. So all your information is very helpful to me, but I should note that choosing isn't very simple for me. In summary, I need a CD player that I can plug into the house current and connect as best as possible to my Marantz. A remote control is not a requirement but could be a plus. Prices can go up to a maximum of €100, and it will not be intended for use in the car or for walking. That's a little summary of my needs. Thank you.

A DVD player with RCA output, under 50 euros, seems like a solution https://www.amazon.fr/TV-video-lecteurs-DVD/b/ref=dp_bc_aui_C_4?ie=UTF8&node=372846011
If your hi-fi system is on your local network, you might be able to see it from your PC in Windows Explorer, on a music file, right-click, then play on the device. My hi-fi system is connected via Ethernet and I have 2 speakers connected via Wi-Fi, to which I can stream music from my PC.
Thank you. We are at a family meal right now. Can I contact you later please? Sorry.
And are these devices worth it? When I see their prices compared to those of Marantz, Denon, and others...
Hello Jee Pee
I'm reaching out to you again... if I can??? You don't seem too keen on this site apparently: ''But to look elsewhere rather than this site...'' : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005002973706710.html
I'm checking the link you suggested: https://www.amazon.fr/DESOBRY-Lecteur-Portable-Compact-t%C3%A9l%C3%A9commande/dp/B0CBTFZLXG/
This device doesn't seem bad. There's the new black one at €49.99 and the black one at €79.99. The presentation for the latter includes a power plug but it's not a plug for our use. What justifies the price difference between these 2 devices? The color? The absence of a power plug? Is it possible to keep these devices plugged into the home's power supply non-stop?Thank you very much. Jean-Luc

Buying devices from unknown brands from equally unknown sellers on the internet is always a gamble. But even on fnac.com, which is a Marketplace open to third-party sellers, you can find the same type of device.
Aliexpress, it can be shipped from China by sea. The products, which used to be of poor quality, have improved. Here, for example, delivery is within 8 days, it must be from warehouses in Europe. But I would say it’s the same for the other device. It is probably also manufactured in China. The more expensive one indicates a delivery time of one month, the second, in some cases, has a stock of 3 devices, within 8 days. The first one has an American power supply; we don’t know if a French version will be delivered. But it doesn’t matter since it’s a power supply for USB plugs, the same as for phones, so the cheaper one would be preferable. The fact that it’s tiny means there’s no internal power supply. But the one from Aliexpress is the same; the power supply comes with a USB C plug.
Thank you Jee Pee
