Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my USB drive. Since I plugged it into my computer the day before yesterday, a notification appeared indicating that a repair of the drive was necessary. I started the repair via Windows, but it ended in failure with the following message: "An error occurred while repairing this drive." Here are the Windows logs:

Chkdsk was run in read/write mode. Checking file system on D: Step 1: Examining basic file system structure... The damaged attribute list entry of type code 30 in file 6C3 has been deleted. I can access the USB drive, but I cannot open or copy the folders. Furthermore, an important folder named "école," which contained all my classes, has been deleted. I used DiskDrill to try to recover it. Although I found part of the folder, not everything is recoverable, and DiskDrill imposes recovery limits, which complicates the situation.

I also tried the following command unsuccessfully:

 chkdsk D: /f /r

If anyone has suggestions for recovering my "école" folder, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

    Hello,

you shouldn't attempt Windows Repair in these cases, it has already caused me trouble; using CHKDSK /F manually is safer.

Try Photorec for data recovery https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

Then tell me more about the USB drive, (Brand, Model, Size) * If applicable

And create a report (with the drive connected) using ChipGenius

Note: This is a powerful tool for extracting information about the USB hardware, (USB controller chip model, memory chip etc.) It can be perceived as infected by a virus by many antivirus programs when it's not. I've personally used it for years, there's nothing to worry about.

Disable the real-time protection of the antivirus while downloading and running ChipGenius, or add the files to exceptions.

    https://www.cjoint.com/c/LIepeZzEuZs

Otherwise, it's the latest version down here with a password:

    https://www.usbdev.ru/files/chipgenius/

Right-click in the ChipGenius window then close the small info window with "Ok", then use Ctrl + V to paste the generated text in your next reply.

Hello, I don't really understand how to use photorec, I'm going to retest, in the meantime here are the results from chipgenius:

It seems to be a valid USB key USB 3.2 protocol

    So 128GB makes sense.

The case of a Fake Flash is unlikely, but you never know.

Once the files are recovered, you can try to erase it with Active@ KillDisk Freeware

    http://killdisk.com/killdisk-freeware.htm

And then format it with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool

    https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/11843-hp-usb-disk-storage-format-tool/

    Then check it with H2testw
