PC restarts in a loop, Windows installation
SolvedEdouardM59 Posted messages 10 Status Member -
Hello everyone!
I just finished assembling my new PC setup. I followed to the letter the process of creating a bootable USB drive using Rufus, I plugged it into one of the USB ports on my motherboard, I started the PC but the installation isn't going through. As soon as I pass the part that shows the motherboard logo, the PC restarts.
I went into the BIOS, and I found my USB drive listed as boot option 1 for partition 1 and 2 for partition 2. I also see the USB drive as boot option 4 after the SSD, but it's not specified as "UEFI" and "partition."
Sometimes I see the Windows logo appear for 5 seconds and then the PC immediately restarts in a loop.
Do you have a solution?
Thank you and have a nice day!

Hello,
You need to set in the BIOS the USB key containing the Windows 11 OS to boot first.

Hello,
Thank you for your help.
For me, it is indeed the case (see photo below)
Hello,
In Rufus, did you correctly choose the "GPT" option, not "MBR"?
Hello,
Systematically with Rufus I have 2 partitions
I tested with MediaCreationTool, I only have one but the observation is the same... it restarts before reaching the Windows installation.
I'm trying with Windows 10 now. I don't understand what is going wrong...
Hello
I can see my USB key set as boot option 1 for partition 1 and 2 for partition 2.
The USB key must be completely free of any partitions other than what Rufus creates!-
Hello Redbart,
The key is normally blank; it was formatted just before using Rufus.
For those interested, here are the boot options for Rufus.
OK, it's just a matter of BIOS settings or should it be USB-HDD in first boot instead of HDD
Hello,
You need to set your BIOS boot sequence to prioritize:
UEFI USB DISK 3.0 PMAP, Partition 2

Hello Thev,
Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately, I have already done that several times. I saw the Windows 11 logo for a few seconds, and for a split second, there's a loading screen at the bottom and the PC automatically reboots.
I tried something else thinking that the Windows I downloaded three times from the Microsoft site was corrupted. I found another version on Clubic, but I got the same result. I also tried Windows 10...
Hello,
It seems that your SSD is not empty, and that may be the issue.
Disconnect it to see if you can boot from partition 2 of your USB stick.
If it works, you should then reformat your SSD after possibly recovering data from it.
Your PC has never had an operating system. There's nothing to say that it isn't a hardware issue (a power supply that's too weak or defective). If you have an old drive with an OS on it, try to boot from it (even if you'll encounter driver errors).
The setup is completely new. The NVMe SSD is straight out of the box, and the power supply is a 650W, more than enough for my setup (AMD Ryzen 5600X, AMD 5650 for the GPU).
Hello,
The latest version of the BIOS can be found here
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-AX-V2-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios
You can update it using Q-Flash from a USB stick
Then do not choose the USB stick for Boot in the BIOS, but use the Boot Menu key (F12)
Select the destination SSD for Windows in the BIOS.
After that, it may be an issue with the driver, the USB stick, or a corrupted ISO.
(Checkable with H2testw for the stick and 7-Zip for the file > Test)Hello,
I updated the BIOS as requested. But it still doesn't work.
I tested the USB drive. No errors, same for the files.
However, I tested with another tool to create a bootable USB drive (Ventoy) and the result is a bit more informative. I took a video to illustrate, and maybe we can make progress on the issue (fingers crossed)!

Hi,
Create a Malekal LiveCD and inspect all the components of your PC.
https://www.malekal.com/malekal-live-cd-reparer-depanner-pc-windows/
Maybe a missing driver, but not even being able to reach the setup, they should be integrated into the ISO with NTLite perhaps.
How many SSDs and USB drives are connected to this PC?
Just the blank Nvme SSD & a keyboard dongle to navigate in the BIOS.

Hello
I skimmed through it, have you tried another USB key?
Use the Microsoft utility, not Rufus, and choose the "for another PC" option when creating the key because if you create the key on another PC it could have this consequence.

Waiting for more responses; I attract trolls....Hello everyone,
Thank you for all your help, unfortunately it couldn't be useful because indeed, the motherboard was defective...
I handed the PC over to a colleague from my IT department who tested the processor on another motherboard and it was perfect. So after changing this last one, everything is working!
In conclusion, don't use the "like new" second-hand items from Amazon...
Good evening!
