Upgrade from Windows 11 Education to normal Windows 11

Hello, a few years ago I received a PC from the Pays de la Loire for free from the government, and to be honest, I unlocked it. I've had this PC for years now and it works very well, I have my administrator account and everything is running fine, but I've been 18 for quite some time, in higher education, and apparently the PCs have either not been unlocked for students as expected, or since I unlocked it, it hasn’t removed the Education version (by the way, I don’t even know if it’s supposed to remove it). However, I feel that the Education version limits me in certain ways, so I would like to remove Windows 11 Education and revert to normal Windows 11. But I tried to go to the website and install normal Windows 11, and it says "Windows 11 is already installed on your PC." What should I do?

Also, if possible, I would like to know if there was a way to completely remove the school aspect from this PC, like the PC that starts up with a screen showing an image of "Pays de La Loire." I have already removed my school account from the PC before, so I am the administrator on it.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Brucine wrote in message <4>:

The question, it seems to me, is not about what we think of this version of Windows or that one, etc.

Indeed, cyber_3X3 asked a very simple question.

It is completely abnormal that it has been diverted to give rise to a more or less aggressive controversy of which the requester remained completely unaware.

Consequently, I have deleted a large part of this discussion to keep only the essential.
And I am closing the topic to avoid any further drift.

I remind you that if there are topics that matter to you, on which you want to express your opinion, there is a free expression section in the forum: it's Café Noir.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

Hello,

Of course, it is possible to delete.
But Windows 11 normal, does not exist.

Microsoft has produced an operating system, since W8, a giant spy, it’s a real mess for security and privacy. This is due to the war being waged by multinational companies in the sector for control of Big Data. To control everyone, all the time; I can’t remember which American said: “What dictatorships failed to achieve in 50 years, the GAFAM have achieved in 10”.

But you have less problematic versions of W11, specifically those intended for businesses or the professional world, to avoid multi-million dollar lawsuits. These Windows spy less, some have almost no spying, or not at all.

If you are on an Education license, you cannot switch to another license like that, you need to buy a new one. It doesn’t cost much on some online sales platforms. Beware of one, the French one that starts with C and ends with: ount.

The folks selling are peddling cracked software.

There is a cheap technique that comes from the National Education, they buy licenses in bulk, and when they have extras, for a time they sold the surplus licenses to their members for a symbolic €1, which helped them cover their costs.

Some individuals had the idea to do the same. They buy professional licenses to install on several computers (100 or more), they divide the cost by the number of stations on which they can install, add a profit margin and then resell it to you cheaply. This can be very expensive software: PaintShop, Adobe PDF, Corel Draw, etc.

The site or the license has always been provided to me, without exception, without any pirated software, it’s R--a--k--u—t--e--n. A Windows Pro costs €0.90, but to manage to remove Pays de la Loire, you will need to do a fresh install, format the disk, etc.

Once you have a pro license, you can use Windows 11 Unattended, which are versions reprogrammed by specialists, they remove all the trackers.

In France, it is not illegal if you have a professional license. You can also use the new W11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, with almost no trackers and other crap.

Otherwise, you can install the free, super-performing South African operating system: Ubuntu; it has a Kubuntu version, the difference being the graphical interface that resembles Windows XP or Windows 7.

To update your drivers, either you go to the manufacturer’s site with the exact references of your computer, or you use the lazy software like me, it does everything by itself, with one click: IObit Driver Booster; they might have it on Comment ça marche.

If you have an education or higher education email address, you can get a highly effective antivirus for free, due to the licenses they have left over, Trend Micro Internet Security.

Hello,

The question, it seems to me, is not what we think of such a version of Windows rather than another one or of Windows in general, nor what to replace Windows with, even less whether the licenses sold on Rakuten are generally more or less reliable than those on Cdiscount. That's not true; it's such a Marketplace that may or may not be at fault in both cases, not the site itself.

Hello

Normally the "throttling" prevented you from being an administrator, thus preventing you from doing whatever you wanted.

At the end of the studies, we only provided the code to become an administrator and do what you wanted. This code can only be obtained from the high school you attended, as the computer is managed by a private company that only delivers it to them at the end of the school cycle.

Unless a "marking" of the disk, like some other brands, renders the computer unable to use anything other than the already installed system, you have the right and already the ability to do everything it allows you to.

There are tutorials to install a regular version of Windows, which I believe involves formatting, and sometimes allows you to retain the license, which can be explored before repurchasing a license, the software being already downloadable for free from Microsoft.

The Malekal.com site, for example, should provide nearly all possible and imaginable tutorials for installing Windows.

Hello,

The unlocking of school computers is now automatic upon leaving the institution, but it used to be handled by the IT referent of the establishment rather than the equipment supplier.

Provided that the BIOS has not remained locked, Windows Education is a version of Windows Pro specifically configured with certain restrictions, including local security policies.

You cannot migrate an Education PC to Home without formatting, but you can migrate it to Pro non-Education by activating a Pro license once it has been purchased.
