Capture Tool... multiple windows impossible

Hello

I used to regularly use the Snipping Tool with W10. In particular, I would take several screenshots without saving them, and they would remain displayed on the screen in multiple windows, allowing me to compare them directly. I want to point out that I have no need to save them.

On W11, the Snipping Tool no longer allows me to do that; however, in the capture window, there is indeed a + button. When I use it to take more captures, only the first screenshot remains displayed. In fact, there is still only one window that shows, that of the first capture.

How is this possible? I want to clarify that in the settings, I have indeed activated "multiple windows".

Thank you for your help

    Hello

On Windows 10, it was indeed possible to open as many windows as needed to take various screenshots, which was an anomaly... corrected in Windows 11.

On Windows 11, screenshots are automatically saved in the Images/Screenshots folder. Every time you press the "Print Screen" key or "+" in the Snipping Tool, it generates a new screenshot, allowing you to take them on the fly.

The function as you knew it in Windows 10 is no longer applied; it generated a RAM overload that could cause PCs to crash.

      Hello,

It might still be possible through Multiple Desktops, although it's certainly not a good idea nonetheless.

At least a number of third-party utilities can copy the captures to the clipboard if we choose this option, from where we can retrieve them at will if we’ve set it to keep the history.

Finally, it depends on what we are capturing: I regularly do this with the output of Dos or Batch commands, for which we get the result by keeping the first window open and then launching that same instance or another.

OK, for me the mistake is now...

Otherwise, in the settings, there is a line "Multiple Windows". Below, it specifies "Open new screenshots in different windows"...

Can you explain to me how this works? I can't manage to do anything...

    Thank you.

This creates a photo with each capture, possibly on the fly, and you can find them in the Pictures/Screenshots folder.

Indeed, it works as you said, but for me it's a total disappointment... especially a real waste of time.

I'll try to find something better (if it exists), otherwise... I'll make do.

        Thank you.
