Messenger Restrictions

Hello,
I would like to know what the signs are that someone is restricting a friend on Messenger?
I’ve noticed that for some time now, when I send messages on Messenger, it says “Sent” if it’s immediate and “Sent 1d, 2d ago, etc.” I also cannot see my friend’s online status, whether he has just been connected or was recently.
However, I am still friends with him on Facebook, and his personal information, wall, etc. remain unchanged with public and private information, nothing has changed. I’ve also asked other friends who have him as a friend or not, and they confirmed that he hasn’t connected and doesn’t post much on Facebook.
So should I be worried about this restriction, and can I still call him, send messages, and does he receive my messages, does he see them, etc.?
Or has he just not had the chance to connect?
As for blocking, that is not the case; otherwise, I suppose I wouldn’t be able to send him messages, call him, or even see him in my friends on Facebook.

It seems that your contact has not restricted your access to them, but probably only changed their connection settings to appear offline. It's possible that your friend has simply disabled their online status, which makes it look like they are always offline even if they are connected.
Regarding the messages, when they are marked "sent," it generally means that the message has been successfully sent from your side, but the person has not read it yet. If the person had blocked or restricted you, you would not be able to send them a message at all.
Finally, even if someone has restricted you on Messenger, they can still receive and read your messages. Restriction does not block messaging; it only limits the posts visible in the news feed and the online status.
It's also possible that your friend simply hasn't had the opportunity to connect on Messenger recently, as your other friends have mentioned.
