Messenger calls?

I just logged into Facebook Messenger, but when I try to call my contacts, it says they are unavailable, even though we are both online.

    Hello, it's due to a connection issue. The person you are trying to reach is not available because they are not online. Contrary to what is displayed on your chat bubble.

      That's not possible, he's unfortunately online and he doesn't want to respond to you.
