AMD Driver Timeout, RX 7900 XTX

Hello,
It’s been several weeks that certain games have been crashing on my PC, displaying an AMD driver timeout bug report. At first, it was rather rare and on games I never really got into, so I didn’t care much, but recently this bug report keeps popping up systematically on Helldivers 2 and Dying Light 2, making it impossible to have a session longer than 5 minutes.
My setup:
Ryzen 9 5900x
MSI rx 7900 xtx
MSI x570 Tomahawk wifi
H150i Elite LCD
4x8 Giga of 3600mhz G-skill Trident Z RAM
I uninstalled the AMD graphics driver with DDU in safe mode and then reinstalled it cleanly, I disabled the OC on my processor (just in case), I updated Windows 10, drivers up to date except for the AMD Chipset Drivers 6.01.25.342 WHQL; when I install it everything goes well, I get the success message but in the end, it always says it's not installed. ANYWAY, I don't think that's the problem.
All my gear is new and about a year and a half old, except for my GPU which is not yet 6 months old. I'm starting to wonder if I should claim the warranty on the GPU considering that everyone who has this issue is blaming their AMD GPU.
That's the situation, I thank in advance those who will take the time to respond to me, thank you very much :p

Hello
It's true that the origin of this problem is multi-faceted, but:
I uninstalled the AMD graphics driver using DDU in safe mode and then reinstalled it properly
In your case, I would bet on DDU, an outdated software, totally useless and destructive, responsible for a lot of issues. Especially if you used it to uninstall the previous graphics card.
So, in this situation, no messing around, it's a complete and proper reinstall of Windows.

Waiting for other responses; I'm attracting trolls....
My power supply is a dark power 12 850w from be quiet and no, I haven’t tested any previous drivers yet, I will try, thanks.
Try switching your power supply to single 12V rail:
To switch the be quiet! Dark Power 12 850W to single 12V rail mode, you need to use the included overclocking key (OVERCLOCKING JUMPER) in the packaging.
-
This key is a small switch that installs in place of a PCIe bay (fan cover) on the side of the PC case.
-
Once installed, it allows you to manually switch between multi-rail mode (4 12V rails, by default) and single rail mode (a single solid 12V rail).
Well, I tried some old drivers until they were so old that my graphics card was no longer supported because it was too recent. If anyone has other suggestions, I'm all ears; otherwise, I plan to return it tomorrow, but I’m not thrilled about it because I'll have to wait 3 weeks to a month for LDLC to receive the package, test the card, and either send it back to me or exchange it. Sometimes I think I should have gone with Nvidia x)
Re, in my final attempt to solve this problem, I completely reset my PC.
There’s nothing to be done, I specifically talked to LDLC’s technical support, they are aware of this issue, AMD too, but there’s no miracle cure. It’s a matter of chance for the rx 7900xtx (xt as well, I believe), likely software issues (certainly) or hardware issues, or maybe both, I really don’t know. As far as I’m concerned, I would say it’s either a manufacturing problem (the most probable) since I currently only have three software on my computer: icue, synapse, and adrenaline. I can’t see a compatibility issue among them x) that would be catastrophic and the adrenaline driver must be working fine for the majority of owners of my card (I hope lol) otherwise AMD would be out on the street as I speak, or a third-party issue on my PC, but I really don’t see where.
In any case, this is the last time I'm getting a GPU from AMD, just take a look online, reddit, jvc, and “how it works”, I invite you to do so; AMD GPUs, especially the 7900 xt and xtx, are very sensitive to this bug, I’m not an isolated case.
My solution, buy Nvidia, sure you’ll have less money, but more hair ;) Thanks again for contributing to this topic, have a nice day everyone :p
I had this issue with the drivers for my card (rx570, not so young), I think it's more of a driver issue, really hardware-wise AMD is good but in terms of software (the chipset too) it's not great.
I recently bought a rx6650xt that malfunctioned in a week (specifically a hardware problem, replaced by customer service with a 7600)
Hello,
have you tried disabling hardware acceleration?
Start menu, enter gpu, graphic settings, change the default parameters Disable and restart.
Also try the games in windowed mode to see if the issue persists.
If the problem is no longer present, then disable vsync and gsync in the game settings.
Let us know...
Hello, no I haven't tried removing hardware acceleration, I indeed overlooked it but it’s coming back to me from a US reddit where guys had tried, unsuccessfully. I tried in windowed mode, same issue, and even if it worked I would have returned it anyway, performance-wise or in terms of software, playing in fullscreen is essential. And I never play with V-sync.
Hi Jaguar, same story, my PC is less than 6 months old, at the beginning everything was fine but indeed on certain games, especially Helldivers 2, it's impossible to play for more than 30 minutes max without getting a driver timeout, black screen, Discord closing, the game too.
I've done research but found no solutions, I've done the same manipulations as you, no drivers work, not even the one they released specifically for this bug on Helldivers (version 23.40.19.01).
It's impossible for me to return the card to Amazon, it's too late, so I'm really regretting it and I think exactly like you: this is the last time for me with AMD for graphics cards, it's disappointment after disappointment. And it's going to be hard to swallow those 1000€!
It's a shame because everything seemed in order apart from that.
My setup:
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
Sapphire 7900 xtx
2x16Go RAM
TUF GAMING B650 PLUS
My solution, or at least my advice will be the same as yours, go for Nvidia and flee AMD for graphics cards, I can't afford it at the moment since I'm not getting refunded for the 7900 xtx personally but well...
Good luck!
Hello everyone,
Like Nesta and Jaguar64, I am experiencing exactly the same issues.
How is it possible for this to happen on a €2000 setup?
I have exactly the same configuration as you:
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
powercolor 7900 xtx
2x16Go RAM
TUF GAMING B650 PLUS
It’s supposed to be a powerhouse (and it is) but the problem is that it crashes very regularly! At most every 2 hours.. How is it possible to spend €1000 on a graphics card only to be constantly held back by this issue?
Anyway, Nesta, if you find any solution, I'm very interested because this is completely frustrating. I'll come back to share any leads here if I find anything on my side..
I saw that there was talk about the power supply earlier, could the problem come from there? I have an MSI A850GL, it’s not the top luxury, even if it seems ok, could it be coming from there?
If it’s purely software, I don’t see what more I can do.. Especially since the PC is only a month and a half old..
I’m coming to the same conclusion as you: first and last time with AMD.
Hello, have you tried the Vullkan drivers?
And modify the power consumption as well as the frequency, if it came from the power supply. (Lower the frequency and the consumption limit)
I had this problem with my 7900XT. I reverted to the previous drivers, lowered the max frequency to 2700 MHz and the voltage to 1080 mV. For now, no more black screen for a month.
I might have a solution for you, having experienced the same problem with this setup:
Ryzen7 3800x
Ddr4 4600mhz 32go
B550 s2h
I downloaded the Gpu-z software to get complete information about the card and noticed that the base core clock was around 2300mhz (I believe 2305) and when I went into the Adrenaline software, it read a core clock of 2800mhz or even a bit more with a voltage varying from 0.8 to 0.9v.
After manual adjustment:
Max core clock at 2500mhz (oc of 200mhz)
Memory speed at 2500 MHz
Voltage at 1.1v
Power gain pushed to 8%
No more stability issues in Forza Horizon 5
Later, after returning to Gpu-z after applying the adjustment, it read a core clock of 1600mhz but the game runs at 144fps in 2k on high with 60-70% usage.
I think this recurring problem comes from a misreading of the graphics card speeds.
