Hello, I built a PC with the following configuration:
+ 1x AMD Ryzen 5 5500 (3.6 GHz)
+ 1x Intel SSD 670P Series 2 TB
+ 1x Antec P10C
+ 1x DDR4 Crucial PRO - 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 3200 MHz - CAS 22
+ 1x Asus GeForce RTX 4060 DUAL O8G
+ 1x ASUS PRIME B550M-K ARGB

At first, when I tried to power it on, nothing happened at all, not even the PSU or the case. I ended up removing the graphics card to make sure the issue wasn't coming from that. I checked the connections and tried removing and reseating a RAM stick (standard). I eventually pressed down firmly on the 24-pin cable at the PSU, which resulted in the case lighting up. But now, none of the fans are working! I haven't tried connecting the monitor to see if anything happens for the moment (except at the beginning when the graphics card was in) because if I understand correctly, it is not normal for any fans to operate (4 in the case + the one on the CPU). Note that when I saw the CPU fan wasn't working, I turned it off. Do you have any advice on what I could check, please? The photo shows the inside of the case at the motherboard level. ibb.co/YDV74hM

I didn't bring up this issue because in your first photo it seemed to me that I saw it plugged in... anyway, yes, this cable is mandatory.

As for the graphics card, it's the same; there are connectors that must be plugged into the graphics card from the power supply. And of course, plug the screen into the graphics card...

Well, normally the CG is connected. I'll eventually figure out what's wrong.

You have to hit it very hard into the slot.

Do you mean the slot that connects CM and CG?

Yes; The PCIexpress 16x, all it takes is for the card to be slightly misaligned and it won't work.

    Hey

It's the motherboard that powers all the fans. It didn't come from the power supply but this cable issue, sometimes the connectors aren't easy, I would take it apart again to restart all the cables while checking the details, especially if it's not new, of course.

I just wanted to ask you to re-add a link for the photos, it doesn't work.

Edit: Oh no, I just saw the case sold with its fans, a control button on the top of the case and a photo of some kind of fan connection board in the middle of the hard drives. We need to pull out the manuals and all the diagrams you find, we have to carefully follow everything.

https://ibb.co/YDV74hM the link should work if you copy it into the address bar. I added it with https so you can click directly. I've already checked the cables multiple times. :/ I will still check some that are not directly linked to the power supply. Thanks for your feedback! Yes, indeed the case powers the fans without going through the motherboard!

      Hi

CPU 5500, the BIOS version should be checked anyway; it's not the same as the 3500 originally planned.

In the BIOS, we can check or adjust plenty of things; the manual is here in French.

      https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/Manual/PRIME_TUF_GAMING_B550_Series_BIOS_EM_WEB_FR.pdf?model=PRIME+B550M-K

The motherboard manual in French states that on a 4-pin fan connector, you can check or connect a 3-pin fan theoretically, even though it might run at full speed; it can be useful, just that it's missing a wire to control the fan in PWM, it stays at a constant 12V. It's the same 3 connectors as the CPU fan except that the latter is controlled by the CPU temperature only.

You have explained the function of each wire in the text.

You haven't connected either of the 2 chassis fan connectors but the CPU one.

      https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_B550M-K/F16604_PRIME_B550M-K_UM_WEB.pdf?model=PRIME+B550M-K

For the power supply, you have the big 24-pin on the right and the big 8-pin EATX12V on top; they look like they're connected, but we can't see in detail; remember your hard-to-press connector.

The details of each connector wire by wire are in the motherboard manual along with the layout for connector placements.

Connector 16 for the case, there is no power supply or control for case fans on this connector.

Hello, I don't understand the image of the CPU fan blades, but it's me who has poor eyesight. When it's not powered, check that it spins easily with a finger, that's all.

The rest would be electrical checks.

The rear fan isn't too far from the motherboard.

It looks like a wire is going into the fan connector compartment, but we can't see any more than that.

    Hello

At the same time, it's a bit normal that nothing is working since you don't have a graphics card mounted in your photo......

The Ryzen 5 5500 is devoid of an integrated graphics circuit, so you must necessarily install a graphics card in the PCI Express 16x slot........

Start with that, and we'll see what happens next.

As you said yourself, the fan connectors are connected to the case's motherboard and therefore do not connect directly to the CPU. The latter is supposed to be ready to accommodate this 5500 processor. The connections have been checked many times. Note that the case does not have a reset button and therefore does not have the associated connectors. I am considering reinstalling the processor. There may be a bad contact. I can also try to access the BIOS, but is it not dangerous for the processor to leave it on? Another thing, there is a SATA connector on the case's motherboard. Shouldn't it be connected to something?

      Hello

"SATA connector on the case's motherboard. Doesn't it need to be connected to something?"

Yes, that's clear, but either a SATA power connector to get power from the PSU. Otherwise SATA from the motherboard? I don't know. Not a technician, I have my limits.

To be honest, apart from a not-so-detailed photo like yours where I saw a board for powering the fans from a distance, I don't have a manual in French for your case.

Do they have software to control it via the PC? I have no idea.

At the top of the case, there's a button for low speed or high speed for the fans, but that's not the whole operation, it's not enough.

      *

"The motherboard. This one is supposed to be ready to accommodate this 5500 processor."

Maybe. If you tell me you've seen the right BIOS for the 5500 that's different, we've seen guys here who bought a board and didn't modify the BIOS from the sellers.

    Don't understand.....

If your case fans have a connection independent of the motherboard, it's still the motherboard that gives the order to power on the PSU, so either the 24-pin connector is poorly connected, or the PSU is dead....

The CPU fan is serious, if the motherboard boots but it doesn't run, normally that's impossible, or the motherboard is short-circuiting with the bottom of the case (very common)

You can double-check the CPU installation, it could have bent pins, when you install it, you need to press down in the center while lowering the locking lever.

And you need to install a graphics card.

I removed the graphics card. Should I put it back? Even if nothing is running? Another thing: the problem is that I don't see how to connect the motherboard to that of the case.

So basically, to recap, I'm going to put the GPU back. If it doesn't work, I'll check the CPU (but apparently: "Of course, every rule has exceptions: AMD processors on the AM4 socket are pinless, which are therefore found on the compatible motherboard."). It indeed seems to me that I did not see any pins when I did the assembly. If it still doesn't work, I think I'll call a technician.

But in principle: "Obviously, there are exceptions to every rule: AMD processors in the AM4 socket do not have pins,

      AM4 socket processors have pins.

It is from AM5 that AMD abandoned this to finally copy Intel, starting from the Ryzen 7xxx.

In fact, the case fans seem to be a different problem. From what I understand, you either need to connect the fan plugs to the motherboard after disconnecting them from the case’s card, or plug the SATA connector from the case card into the power supply using a cable that links it to the “drive” plugs of the power supply (see photo). What do you think?

to connect the SATA socket of the case's board to the power supply via a cable

Yes, that's what is intended for/with the case, but if you want flexibility to adjust the fans yourself from the BIOS, you should disconnect them to connect them to the motherboard sockets. It's your choice.

But there's no problem connecting them to the 12 V power supply, no risk?

        PC fans run on 12V

Drive 12v? Where is it written?

You have fans sold with the case.

Yes, we always check that it's either 5v or 12v DC fans, you're right. Indeed, they are either 5v or 12v. The fan connectors on motherboards are 12v.

After that, for 3-pin fans on the motherboard, we send a variable current between 0 and 5v, or 0 and 12v. In reality, there is an unknown voltage below which a fan will not start.

We can even imagine that unknown fans are powered by PWM on 2 wires.

It's a direct current, for example 12v, but pulsed; it continuously switches from 0 to 12v and the average is between the two, the speed varies.

Normally, your case should receive power from the power supply; they often do that.

Then they either measure the temperature on their fans, but that doesn't take into account your components, or a connection with the motherboard is needed.

The settings in your BIOS or through software require a connection with the motherboard. Even if it's the case's board that supplies the power and the fans remain connected to the case's board.

Yes, to start the processor, the fan must always work. Even if I have to power it with a battery, I make it run.

Unfortunately, I put the graphics card back in and it still doesn't work; in any case, the processor fan remains inactive even though the case fans are functioning. I think I'll need to check if the processor is damaged. Also, I saw in the tutorial on the materiel.net site that the SSD needs to be powered with a SATA cable connected to the power supply. https://www.materiel.net/guide-achat/g7-les-ssd/5370/ Could the problem be related to insufficient power to the SSD? I apologize for the naivety of my questions, but this is my first time building a computer with an SSD.

In fact, I found the answer: this type of SSD doesn't require a cable apparently, and connecting it to the motherboard is enough.

        Hi

Yes, the SSD on the M.2 slot with this board doesn't require a ribbon or cable, there are 2 slots.

And since the case fans have turned on, the motherboard at least gets the power supply to start. We're making progress.

        Hey

        • Good catch! It's really a trap with multiple connectors on the power supply, from a distance you can't even guess it exists, I was really worried about the motherboard.

Ah, the graphics card won't start if you don't connect all the cables; they may be on a strip, but now to make it look nicer with the wires, there are fewer differences between models, which might hide them in the standard photo.

Some motherboards may have a connector at the back, you had to think about that if you don't have a hole and another compartment, are we going to make cases for a connector? I saw that in a picture, we'll see.

And more and more graphics cards have fans that wait for it to heat up before starting, it's less a sign that they're working and more about being quiet.

Well, I've made another progress after checking the processor which seemed fine. The cable connected to the 24-pin socket on the motherboard has a 20-pin connector and an 8-pin connector on the other end to connect to the power supply. I hadn't plugged in the 8-pin part! I feel so silly! Anyway, now the CPU fan is running but the graphics card fan isn't and I have no display on the screen. :( But at least I've made progress.

Okay, I managed to display the BIOS boot menu. I'm not really sure what was wrong. Maybe the GPU was not seated properly. I also switched the screen to HDMI and pressed the keys F1...F12 on the keyboard. Maybe that helped. But I must have been too focused on the GPU fan that wasn't spinning when it should be normal. I'm almost there! (And it's also thanks to you, thank you!). I'll keep you updated. And then, plot twist, my Internet provider is experiencing an outage that could last until Saturday lol. Now I will have to install the OS from a USB drive...

indeed, the graphics card fans do not necessarily spin (unlike the CPU). It depends on the temperature/fan curve; often below 40°C they are at 0
